Maybe.
but the Everest is significantly better than the Ranger.
The inside looks a lot more modern than a Prado and the top of the range Crusade will be about the same cost as a GXL.

i think the main difference will be interior feel and comfort of ride on road, the same difference the prado has vs the hilux...

Definitely worth a look.
I saw a lot of them driving around while in Indo recently. Obviously they are the ones made over there and not quite built as nicely as our ones but they looked pretty nice. Definitely noticeably smaller, whether that's the same on the inside I don't know.
Can see them taking a big chunk of Prado sales for the people simply driving around town...

Prado versus Fortuner
The new Fortuner will be here in a few weeks and I for one am holding off on buying a Prado to see what its like.
From what I can gather its the same motor and tranny as a Prado, front end is Hilux, rear is all Fortuner.
There's a great interactive web site here.
http://www.toyota.co.th/fortuner/en/index.php
So what do you Prado fans think of it?
Is it really a contender, or more pretender?
Anyone have any inside news on it?
I can see pros and cons but its worth a squiz.

I was speaking to the local Toyota guy this morning about this, The new Hilux release is in 2 weeks and the fortunes is around 3 weeks after that.
He didn't know a price but suggested mid to high 40's, it will come in a GX as well as the GXL, so the GX might be a bit lower in price.
I guess all will be revealed in a few weeks.
Cheers Andrew

Interesting to see how much this costs. I assume it won't be full time AWD instead it will run in 2wd with selectable 4L and 4H?
Has prices been mentioned yet? I'm guessing mid 40s. Whilst more than I wanted to spend on a next car I can somewhat justify that I should get easily 15 years out of it being based on the Hilux and being a 7 seater shouldn't outgrow it.

I saw a photo shoot of this thing out at boat harbour , a coupla months back . Can't say I was impressed with the looks . I only saw it from the back and sides . I thought it was something that sanyong had designed . Didn't like it . But then I don't really like the 150 either , then again I didn't like the 120 either , whoops . Must be old and crusty .

Is the DPF instead of the EGR or in addition to the EGR system ?

I'll keep that in mind. Thanks
Me thinks you need to find a new salesperson.
I personally wouldn't wouldn't tow 3.5t with any other ute than a cruiser. Everything else is lacking in the stopping and going department!
Oh, and how does a top of the range GXL ute with top of the range steel tray, ARB bar and all the plastics drive away for $68k sound? What's the top of the range Ranger go for???

You can name a ute in this category that's good for 1 tonne and is made by Toyota? Don't include 4x2 utes because we aren't talking about 4x2 utes.

60-70% of braking is done by the front;
Drums are cheaper to manufacture;
Drums can function as a handbrake very simply, whereas discs need a parking separate system. Again cheaper
