  • Prado(1997(95 Series)) 2.7L - 2nd Row(Back seat) question

    Hi,

I know I have asked this somewhere.

I am haven't troubles with my children growing up(not the point of the thread lol)

Is there a way to get a 3rd seat belt installed in the middle of the split seat? and/or does any prado's come with a bench type seat rather than the rear fold.

I don't use the rear fold at all. I asked a company that does car upholstery(thinking they could do a 'pimp my ride' type modification) and they advise I get a non folding seat that will fit and they can re-cover it etc but I am stuck as it seems like all Prado's in the series comes with split fold as standard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm a bit confused - I guess you have the older model? Mine is an 8 seater. The middle row is split 60/40 and the rear row is split 50/50 - but both have 3 seat belts each. If yours has less, perhaps you can source the same as mine, fit them and (if important to you) have it certified.

      Hi.

      Many thanks for that reply.

yes if you class the thread title 1997 Prado an 'older' model, then yes I guess a 19 year old car can be classed as older.
Mine has 5 seats and 5 belts however the middle one is a lap sash and is now illegal

Plus I am a father and will not put my child with a lap sash only.

Ah yes I missed the year model in the subject - similar to how you missed the categories in this forum and posted this question in the wrong place

I think you're confused about terms. You originally said you wanted to install a seat belt in the middle. Now you're saying your vehicle already has one in the middle and it's lap sash. Lap sash means a belt over the lap plus a diagonal over the chest. I've never heard of a 90 series with lap sash in middle seats, they're lap only.

Neither lap-sash or lap-only have been made illegal - the authorities cannot force older vehicles (which were originally approved under a standard) to comply with modern safety standards.

I guess what you're really asking here is, is it possible to replace your lap-only middle belt with a lap-sash belt so you can confirm to child restraint rules...? As far as I'm aware there's no such thing among other 90 series so alternative parts would need to be sourced and you'll need to involve a seat/restraint installer and/or engineer regarding proper installation and certification.

Yes some 90 series came with a bench middle row seat, I don't know which ones. Perhaps its related to years or the basic models such as RV / RV6.

An alternative is to look into whether your vehicle has the mounting points for rear row seats, as many 90 series were released as 8 seaters. The rear row has lap-sash on each side, and lap-only in the middle, providing a total of 6 lap-sash + 2 lap-only.

Again many apologies. Yes the Prado is fitted with a lap-only belt and would like to have intsalled(professionally) a lap-sash belt.

I guess this will need some research. I really should have checked with the transport and not go off the word of a family member. Fool me once. Thanks for that info too.

Until not long ago, I referred to seats in the car as front and back, had no idea about about 2nd or 3rd.. lol.
Yes thank you for the information.

I might just ring Toyota, instead of wasting your time.

Dicky seats went out with the model T, I think the fourties saw the end of them.
