  • Thinking of buying one...

    Hi All,

Great forum. Have spent weeks on here doing research and reading what everyone has been saying. Very interesting and have learnt heaps.

Anyway, this has made me decide that I now want a Prado and I think I have found the one I want but still do have a few questions. This will be my first Prado. Have also thought about getting a brand new one on Toyota Access scheme.

The one I am also currently look at is a 2010 GXL diesel with 144k on the clock. Current advertised price is 36k (They have dropped the price by 3k in the last 3 weeks). Have test driven it twice now and every seems to be ok but I guess my biggest concern is how do I check if the injectors have been changed without plugging something in and checking the settings etc? I couldn't find anything related to the injectors when I went through the service records. Also if I do need to get the injectors replace, roughly how much will it cost? I think I read somewhere about $3k??

Other concerns will be the following:
    1. When the car has stopped at the lights, I do notice the top of the bonnet (portion closest to the windscreen) shakes/vibrates quite a bit. Is this normal.
    2. Did notice a squeak/rattle coming from the back. I did see the post about the rattles and what everyone has found so will investigate a bit more to see what it is.

    Thanks Heaps

144K on a 2010 would probably still be on the original injectors with the redesigned seats. I was very careful to include my paperwork for the new injectors, knowing it would help resale value, so if there is none, assume they are the originals. The replacement cost sounds about right, but for less you can get them reconditioned. If you can drive it from cold, and it sounds extra 'pingy', then new injectors can help.

The vibration is normal - there is a lot of movement between the chassis and cabin on ladder-frame trucks. Price is a little high, unless it has good accessories.

Hmm interesting you say price is a little high. Car is pretty much stock standard with tow bar and nudge bar only.. Anyway im still looking around. Thanks for the help.
