I went to do the transfer on the prado i purchased a few weeks ago.
When looking on the NSW RTA site i came across this little gem.
'And you may need to pay:
Additional motor vehicle tax (or national heavy vehicle charges) if you have bought your vehicle from someone receiving an RTA concession (such as a pensioner) and you are not eligible for that concession.'
Since when do i become liable for another persons taxes?
If my friend has a tax bill i am not liable to pay his, so why should i have to pay the outstanding vehicle tax because the NSW state govt chooses to give a pensioner a rebate on the tax?
Surely this would have to be cosidered illegal if it wasn't in the legislation? then again i suppose that the fed govt calculates the GST on fuel after all other taxes have been added so it's as much a tax on a tax.
At the end of the day all govenments are unhung scoundrels and this is just another way to prove it.
