Hey Croozer, if you are doing it under novated lease, the boss does not have a choice, the car will be owned by you etc etc.
However, if you are swapping the offer of a company car, for cash, well that might make difference.

Also the residual on a three year lease should be 46.88% of the amount financed (inclusive), round $21,500 incl
I also ran the figures to see $400 fortnight impact... I can't get a real salary cost that low.
The lease pmts without GST, alone, are approx $1126 mth, that alone, is $260 wk before rego ctp service etc etc

I can see that you would be at least $700-800 a month better off compared to not novating.
Prob worth double checking your figures against a payslip etc.

Bought my car today, got $60500 for a Glacier White GXL D4D Manual 2011 Complied/Plated. Including Towbar, Tint, Headlight/Bonnet Protectors, Front/Rear Seat Protectors (honouring side airbags), rear cargo bay mat and a full tank of petrol. Canberra Toyota (Registered NSW though). I'm happy, had a hard time getting pricing from people but in the end pleased with the result. Coupled with tradein. Approx 6 week wait.

Drove straight from Toyota to ARB.

            Zenra,

The residual may well be 46.88% (I'll have to take your word for it), which by my reckoning is pretty close to being 'about' 47% as previously stated. However, the lease company my employer uses rounds it up to 47% in their costings layout. And yes, as scottsr8 indicated, the 'boss' is my wife. I'm sorry if that was too subtle.

In regards to the actual lease payments, I can only go off the quote provided by the leasing company. Not including all the costs to lease/run the vehicle pre-tax, the final amount that effects my pocket is the difference between my previous take-home pay (before lease) vs my new take-home pay (with lease). Admittedly, my previous statement about it being $400 was not exact (and was intended as an approximate rather an exact figure) and further calculations show its about $500 per fortnight. However, I have had this checked by others with far more numerical ability than myself and the figures add up. A colleague of mine has also recently leased a Prado GXL T/D auto and he has indicated his fortnightly lease payments are similar to my costings.

Perhaps each lease company has various costs involved in their plans which may effect the monthly lease payment from one lease company to another. It may also depend on which method of leasing you choose to undertake, eg: Type of insurance, Employee Contribution Method vs 100% pre-tax and inclusive of FBT etc. I know of a few fellas who I work with who have leased their cars and are very pleased with this lease company. I have nothing to compare them with however, and can only take their word for it.

Still, at the end of the day this is all just dreaming because the boss (aka my lovely wife) has re-indicated (read: enforced) her strong preference for an Outback. Sigh...

              Attention: South Australian PP'ers

If you are looking to buy a new Prado - PM me and we can chat about a few hiccups I had in the last two weeks when negotiating - in reference to the price.......

I will not make any bad comments on any particular dealer, however I can tell you which one tried to have me part for an extra $10,000 out of my ultra hardly ever opening moth riddled wallet.

Darcy at Mosman Toyota also matched a good deal on a GXL 2011 Prado, same specs/price as my post above. If you're in the Sydney area I'd recommend giving him a call, I opted for a local dealership.

                  Hi all,

I read with interest your comments on novated leasing. I have leased my last three vehicles and it works very well for my situation. Although I recommend that you do your sums very carefully, as it may not suit every situation. Before I went into my first lease i did a lot of research & attended an information session hosted by my employer as they had only just made leasing available to us. I also had to get advice from an accountant (compulsory for the 1st year or so back then) I showed my figures to the accountant who agreed with them to the cent. Before I could proceed with the 1st lease I had to have all of the figures and explain them to the Minister for War & Peace. I am now on my 3rd lease (2nd Prado) and while the leasing option is available to me, I most certainly will do so. The tax savings are most definitely worth it.

                  Cheers

G'day all, I'm new to the forum. I've been reading this thread for a while and it looks like the average price for a GXL TD Auto might be around the $62k mark, which is interesting compared to the Toyota website that indicates it starts at $64.4k plus all of the extra fees that could potentially take it to about $71k.

I'm only at the thinking stage at the moment. I've currently got a Hilux SR5 TD manual dual-cab, hard lid, ARB deluxe bar, Cooper ST's, that I bought new in Aug07 in inner western vic. It's now got 60000kms on it and as much as I'd easily trade for another Hilux SR5, I'm warming to the idea of a new GXL TD Auto.

Looks like 6 weeks is the usual waiting time. Is this still about right?

Monday Update: Went to a Toyota dealer today and showing good interest in a new GXL TD Auto. A rep there was quoting prices around the $70k mark and wasn't showing much interest. Maybe my work clothes didn't cut it for him - it seems I'll have to wear a suit next time... :?

                      Hi Uteracer

                      Welcome to PP.com

Picked up my Glacier White 150 D4D Auto GXL 25/1- Got 650 Kms on it so far. Love it. Best car since my 2003 GXL Petrol a few years ago.

Ordered it on 30/11. Paid 59,946 on road with full tank from dealer (starting price was $68,700 on road) - no trade in. No extras - didn't want any as I had my own ideas on what I wanted and didn't want to pay LCT 33.3% extra for accessories that weren't to my choosing. I knew what I was prepared to pay and just stated that if that price could be reached I would sign there and then and that was it.

Getting Wynnum Towbar Designed Towbar, Dual Battery, Redarc Isolator, Anderson Plug, Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller and extra 12V plug in cargo area fitted Wednesday at Wynnum Towbars.(Great guys to deal with) Already fitted Sand Grabba Mats for front and rear seats.

I tow a 2t GTM Caravan and my research showed the D4D as Ideal for it. First weekend out at end of Feb. Can't wait.

Good luck with your purchase. I am very happy with mine. (My better half thinks it is a truck)

                      Cheers

                        Hi All

On the Novated Lease subject I did extensive sums on my new Prado - Novated Lease V Outright purchase before deciding to buy it outright and the issue I faced was that I didn't want to exceed 15000kms a year (as I only do 5,000 kms a year to work and that's reducing and I use my second car for short trips around town outside work when my better half doesn't need it) so that meant 26% of the vehicle value would be used as the FBT base then add the 2.0647 gross up on that. Even though I work for a Not-For Profit Organisation whereby the FBT would be just a bit over half the normal rate it still didn't stack up. As well the Residuals are set by the ATO guidelines starting at 65% for 1 year down to 25% at 5 years and you pay GST on that as it is a private payment.

My current vehicle was borderline on the 15,000 kms and with the QLD floods etc reducing holiday travelling options I didn't get of the line. Fortunately me employer agreed to meet the extra $700 or so I would incur at no expense to me. I guess employers like this are few and far between!!

If I was to do over 25,000 kms yes it was a better deal as the % would drop to 11% of the vehicle value which must remain at original value for 4 years. These percentages are not very environmentally friendly as they encourage high kms to get any real benefit from the statutory formula system.

To me the key is the actual kms you do remembering that if you do 24,000 the FBT Bill will be the same as if you did 15,500 and you have paid for an extra 8,500 kms in running costs as well.

Also as reduced working hours and partial retirement are imminent it didn't make sense to have a novated lease demanding to be paid every month.

Just a couple of thoughts on the issue as they affected my circumstances.

                        Cheers

I just got the wait times on my GXL - the dealer has quoted end of March with the customer delivery tracker showing 6.5 weeks. It is also showing the vehicle isn't assembled yet. I am in ACT and ordering a White GXL TD Manual. The dealer said they expect the wait time to come down a little throughout the process.

I think I'll be knawing on my fingers around that time, I have a 3 week touring holiday planned for 2 weeks after and ARB booked in for fitout the week before. Cutting it fine! Need to test everything out before I go (except hitting something with the bullbar).

Thanks Woody. My situation is slightly different, in that I'll be trading in a July2007 Hilux SR5 Dual Cab TD manual 62000kms, ARB Deluxe Bar, ARB dual batt, Hard lid and new Cooper ST's. So I'm hoping for not too much more than $20k changeover as I'll still want to put Cooper ST's, ARB Deluxe Bar and dual batt on the new 150 on day one - so there's another $4k gone

Hi benjl. My white manual gxl must be on the production line with yours. Due to come off soon and delivery date to me was given as 15 March but Tracker says 20th. Talk about waiting for a birth, I go to the tracker each day and of course there is no change (on production line), but sure enough, next day I'm back again. it will be here when it's here but I wish it was here yesterday.
                              Happy delivery.

I remember it said it was still on the warf but I got a phone call from the dealer telling me it was ready to pick up!!! From memory it was about 2 weeks earlier than the tracker said.
One time I didn't mind getting the wrong info!!! Maybe get yours early too!!!
