  • What can I expect for $30k

    Hey team,
Still looking around for a second hand Prado...
The wife and I are looking to spend around $30k.
Just after a few thoughts from the members here as to what would be a good deal in that price bracket.
    Year, kms, accessories etc?
BTW we are based on the Gold Coast....

    Cheers
    Matt

Re: What can I expect for $30k

Here is a sample from carsales. Prados hold their value well. A few months ago, I bought a late 03 Grande with 82,000km for $36K from a private seller.

If you increase your budget a little and looked interstate as well, you should be able to get an '03 GXL petrol with about 100,000km for around the $30K, maybe even less. Spend a little bit more and you could get a late '04 with the 5 speed auto.

Here is another sample of Prados from around the country for under $30K.
Once you change your price bracket from $30K to $35K, you get a whole lot more choice.

For a budget of $30K, I would aim for a GXL from 2003-2004 with around 100,000km and maybe 1 or 2 major accessories like a bullbar, toebar and roofracks. but I would prefer something standard so that you can then come to Pradopoint and select the best gear for your rig. If you do find one with an ARB deluxe winch bar on it, that is probably the best bar on the market and you should evaluate how hard that car has been driven off the beaten track vs the cost of putting one on yourself. In most cases, buyers tend to avoid heavily modded cars but if the owner has shown good care of it, then why not.

Re: What can I expect for $30k

Although I know price is definitely a major factor, can you give us a bit more info on what other features you are looking for or want and those you would like?

        120/90 series?
        Auto/manual?
        Diesel/Petrol?
GX/GXL or VX/Grande (if you are looking at a 90 series)?

There are heaps of options to choose from. As stated, Prado's hold their value quite well, and for good reason too.

$30,000 goes a long way. My only advice at this stage is to not worry to much about the accessories, as you can always add what you want later. Look at the actual condition of the car first, as Toyota's can be expensive to fix if they have major mechanical issues and are out of warranty.

Re: What can I expect for $30k

            Madkore,
I'm after a petrol and def want a 120 series GXL.
I just missed out on a couple over the last week, they had just sold when I made the calls....
Would be happy with a manual but not too sure about the 4spd auto, and after reading a few of the other posts here on the site the 5spd auto seems a much better option. Is it worth the extra $ though? Could possibly go up to $32k for the right car if I can convince the wife!!

Thanks everyone who's replied so far...
            Cheers
            Matt

Hi Matt we bought our 2002 GXL 90 series last september for $26,000 with 90,000 kay's on the clock. It only came with the snorkel since then we have added around $12,000 worth of accessories to it and still more to go but it hasn't missed a beat and we are up to 160000 kays. There are plenty of deals waiting to happen out there.

Re: What can I expect for $30k

                        Well I'm pretty excited.
Officially joined the Prado owner's club.
Bought a late Dec 05 White GXL 5spd Auto V6.
Pretty standard other than the alloy bullbar and towbar and BFG A/T's.
Was originally on sale for $34500 but managed to get it for $32k.
Drives like a dream, needless to say after all the looking and waiting I'm a happy man.
Now I'll be saving up the pennies to add a few things here and there....
Thanks again for the info guys.
                        Cheers
                        Matt
