I need some Prado advice from those who love them as much as I do!

I'm trying to find a Prado at the moment - a 2008 or beginning 2009 model GLX or more (not GX). I wonder what I would pay for one with all the things on my wish list...

    Diesel
    Automatic
White, 2nd choice Black, 3rd choice Silver
    Low kms (40,000 or less)
    Split 3rd row seats
Rear safety camera or reverse sensor

What do you think the price would be for one like this, should I be so lucky to find one!

Also, not sure whether to trade in my 2004 Rav 4 Cruiser with extras (105,000km on it) or sell privately?

You guys seem to be very much in the know so your advice would be muchly appreciated! :-)

    2009 Prado

Does anybody know which month in 2009 the last of the old shape Prado was made? I like the old shape better than the new shape and when doing a search for used cars, I'm not sure what month the old shape ended.
    Thanks!

Mrs Smithers, for for a mid 08 model onwards in a 120 GXL, you'd get the rear air-con, D4-D diesel engine.

I would also be looking for one with Option Pack 1, which gives you Stability Control, Traction Control and Side and Curtain Airbags. You can teel if it has OP1 by the embossed SRS airbag label on the front window pillar trims, and the airbag warning label on the front seats. This was a factory only option, available only from around 08, so quite hard to come by, but well worth paying a bit more for. It almost makes it a VX model except for the leather seats.

Reversing camera was not an option on the GXL. Reversing sensors were a dealer fitted option so you can probably still get those fitted.

Mine is probably similar to what you are looking for ( late 2008 GXL, Option Pack 1, Silver with 32,000km ), I am very happy with it and don't intend to sell for some time, but happy to give you any advice on this model. What you;d be paying for one I can't tell, probably need to trawl carsales.com.au
        Cheers, Wayne

I was looking for the same car and they were around the $55k mark if you could find one. In the end I bought a new 150 series for $58k drive away

As previously quoted, upwards of 50k, i saw an 07 in the yard the other day for 49k and it had done 95000klms, i almost died. Learn to like the new shape, probably a better option for your money. Sell the Rav privately, probabaly get another 4-5k more than trade in.

Thank you so much guys for your invaluable advice. This has really helped me.

One more question - I was checking out the Prados today when the Yummy Mummy's were picking up their children and noticed none of the 3 Prados had that lovely glossy tyre cover! Which model (and year) is the lovely tyre cover or is it an optional extra??

I think Hubby wants to do the unthinkable and get a new Mitsubishi Pajero. NO NO NO!!!!!!!! ops:

              Thanks again guys.

NO NO NO to the Pajero, we bought a new one years ago (1996), top of the line, 4 gearboxes and 5 rear diffs in 60,000 kms, we all know that there are "lemons" but Mitsubishi wouldn't replace the car, they just kept fixing it (10 days stranded in Weipa) under warranty, the last Mitsubishi ever to enter our household.

                Regards, Richo.

The NT Pajero are a very good vehicle IMO. I think you will be very happy whichever vehicle you get 120, 150 or new Paj. If you are comparing a late model 120 Prado with a NS or NP Paj, then different story altogether.

I agree with the others above. Go for the new 150 rather than spending a little bit less for a S/H 120.
It seems that new 150 GXL's are being had for $58k drive away, which is a no brainer when compared to 55k for a 120.
2008 Diesel Prado with extra stuff added. I drive it on the road and other places too.

You don't get a 150 series GXL for $58K. You might be lucky to score a bog stock GX - skinny rims, no side-steps, no frills, etc for that money.

The last of the 2009 GXLs were $65,990 drive away, even as the 150s were hitting the shore. The new 150 GXLs are similarly priced if not $2,000 dearer. You might get one for around $62K if you have a contact at a dealer. I know, my brother is picking up his brand new Graphite GXL D4d auto tomorrow.

But they still have a few brand new 2009 "slightly hail damage" 120 GXLs for $62K.

Are new cars more expensive to buy in WA where you are? They are far cheaper second hand. I flew over to Perth to pick up my 120 which only had 24k's on the clock. Saved myself upwards of $7000.00 on S/H Sydney pricing, and got three days of driving back through some beautiful country as a bonus!

My brother got his brand new 150 GXL today for a bit over $62K from Scarboro Toyota. One of his in-laws is an executive at the dealership hence the discounted price.

                          6 demo 2009 150s (model/engine not disclosed) advertised at Galleria Toyota from $62,888. Melville have a 2009 GXL 150 t/dsl for $61,888 with 4,000km same price as 2007 Grande t/dsl.

Another dealer has a 2008 120 GXL t/dsl for $57,990. A 2008 120 GX t/dsl for $55,990. Yet another has an 07 GXL t/dsl for $57,990.These advertised prices are pretty standard across the board for second hand or demo vehicles in Perth.

I'm sure if they thought you could get a 2010 GXL for $58K they wouldn't have these big ticket prices on these older models because nobody in their right mind would buy an older model for more cash - just doesn't make sense. And they would be out of business pretty quick too. And if westaussies thought they could save themselves $8,000 by shopping for a brand new Tojo in Qld or Victoria, they'd all be over there in a flash.
