  • New vehicle delivery times ?

I'm starting to plan my purchase - still aiming for end of the year if things go well (have also started planning the trip to South America for the wife which is mandated to happen before we buy the Prado !!)

Was wondering how long I should expect between order and delivery of the vehicle. I realise it probably varies - but was hoping there was a ballpark figure people could offer ?

Does it vary based on model I wonder ? I'm thinking of getting the VX - which I get the impression sells less than the GXL and Grande models (they are the only two I ever see locally).

My current plan is to place the order some time just before Christmas expecting delivery some time in the new year ... although if the finances allow, I would love to have it in time to drive home to Adelaide for Christmas.

    Thoughts on timing ?

    Sim,
It probably depends on the dealer, colour, model, price you are willing to pay and time frame.

I started looking for prices in February for a white , automatic 2007 model GXL.
Around the time there was a run out of 2006 model at specially discounted prices from Toyota.
Got serious with order in late March and was told by one dealer they had a vehicle that met my requirements due on the lot 14/4/07.
Another dealer who was much cheaper said they had 2 coloured automatics in stock and would look to exchange with another dealer for the colour i wanted.
I placed order with this dealer.
During this time I had also approached 2 other smaller dealers and they said they could not supply for about 3 months.
As it turns out dealer has been unable to source a white automatic and said that an order had been placed with Toyota and construction would commence in May 2007.
Come the end of the year the 2007 model will be in the run out stage and depending on any changes proposed for the 2008 might also affect availability of the 2007 model.
An alternative to buying in late 2007 may be to ascertain when 2008 model would be available , and placing an order for one that meets your requirements at that time.
Of course the 2007 model should be cheaper than the 2008 based on variance between 2006 and 2007 models (app$4000).

Was talking to a Prado owner today and he said a friend who wants a white Prado told him dealers are now quoting 6 months for delivery.

Hope my order arrives a bit sooner or I might end up with a 2008 model!!

Anyone else heard this story on 6 month delivery time.

In New Zealand most toyota dealers have the new Prado D4D in stock plus a demo.

We only have 2 models avaliable the RV and VX Prado in Petrol or Diesel and all the new Prados have the spare wheel mounted underneath as standard.

If you were going to buy at the end of any year i would wait for a 2008 build date as the vehicle is going to hold value longer even it was built in jan.

Is it law in new zealand not to have spares mounted on tail gates. If so where do they mount the spares on ravs,gu's and mitsoshity's.
            Cheers Phil.

              Hi Guys,

I recently decided to buy a new D4D, only wanted a GX with air and ABS, the delivery time went from 6 weeks to 12 weeks to 17 weeks................

Not good when I had already traded my X-Trail to the dealer.

I ended up "upgrading" to a GXL, still 5 week wait (it was already on its way over previous customer could not get finance). Still have 2 weeks to go.

Mate gets his brand new 07 D4D today!

              Rob.

BTW I am in Brisbane, have been to dealers in Hobart and Sydney and the 4x4 show, all say the same thing, long waiting times for diesel. Petrol not a problem.
If I associate with eagles, I will learn to soar to great heights. I am an eagle. It is my destiny to fly.

my father-in-law had his (silver, manual GXL diesel) in under two weeks which included getting an ARB bar fitted and his own winch installed (which they had some grief with apparently that delayed things slightly)

I got to drive my father-in-law's new 2007 D4D GXL yesterday

They have driven over from Adelaide for a visit and we met them in Bowral. They weren't comfortable with driving in Sydney while trying to navigate their way to our place, so I got to drive from Bowral back to Sydney.

I asked about how long it took to deliver, apparently only took 2 weeks (Silver colour).

Was very nice to drive - smooth and effortless cruising down the motorways, and I found it pretty good driving around the streets too. Seats were comfortable, but I kept banging my head on the grab handle above the drivers seat

I've seen that complaint on another forum where someone who had to hire a Prado was complaining about the drivers grab handle. Having contemplated how you could actually bang your head on it, I decided you would need to be a giraffe, the one with brown spots, not just a tall human. Either that or you'd bash you head into the door frame anyway as the grab handle only pokes out into the door entry about an inch.

Strange as it is to have it (as in, if the driver needs it, you're in serious trouble!!!) I do find it useful for occasionly hanging on to as an alternative to resting ones arm on the door. Probably could remove it if you really needed to.

                      Cheers, Nige

                        HgMonaro,
A silver Prado diesel was available , together with another colour, when I placed order back in March,
However, dealer was unable to swap for a white , automatic which I want.

Anyway checked with dealer today and build is expected to commence 15/5/07 and it should take about 6 weeks for the vehicle to be available here.

Have been given an Order Tracking Number and can log into see how things are going.

Dealer said the diesel was very popular.

Spent the day driving the in-laws around Sydney today ... I checked again, it was mostly when I was wearing my sunglasses on top of my head that it became annoying. When I wore them normally or took them off, it wasn't too bad ... except if I tilted my head towards the window, the grab handle would hit the top of my head. I figure it would only become a potential problem if driving on washed out roads where the car may be leaning off to one side for a bit ... but I'd think I'd be driving pretty slowly at that point, so it's not as if I'd be constantly bashing my head. I can live with it

Really enjoying the Prado ! Easy to drive around city traffic ... accidentally took a wrong turn onto a very steep and narrow winding road at one point ... no effort at all to get up the hill and around the steep sharp (knife-edge) corners.

                              Borgy,
See my post of 2/5/07 above.
Checked "Order tracking" and it shows
                              Status
Information current at: 3/05/2007 7:45PM AEST
Current status of your order: On Order

Planned production month: Still to be confirmed
My deposit was paid 4/4/07 and at the time dealer was trying to swap a silver for my choice.

Dealer advised that their records show ECD is 15/5/07.

Where are you and when did you place order?
