test drives ???? I would get this dealer by the throat and give him a $5 log book from the paper shop. You want the speedo reading when it's backed off the truck, and everytime it leaves to go somewhere to have stuff done to it ect and the return reading.. make them account for every km on the speedo. I do this quite often and it works very nicely,,, no fights about stone chips, dirty seats, dirty floor mats ect, ect,,

I know the temptation for them to use it for test drives would be pretty strong, I have a good rapport with my salesguy but at the end of the day they are trying to sell cars. I will be advising him of my wishes in this regard of that you can be assured.

I am more worried that they will do a crappy job at fitting the Sovereign BB and not put the plates in, I am also going to insist this is done correctly.

I just received my new Canon 40D DSLR so I am going to take a leisurely drive back to Alice taking some landscape shots along the way. I have done this trip so many times it is like a long driveway to me. :lol:

I cannot say that I wil be sad to see the Falcon go, she is getting a bit tired now and things are starting to break on her pretty often. 3 years and 121000 km on a Falcon is about all they can take these days. Still it gave us 3 years of comfortable touring, just glad I did not have to pay for the fuel costs cause it sure likes a drink.

Hope you enjoy your trip to Alice, I once did it in a 16TS Renault when the only bitumen was just before you got into Alice Springs at at some of the servo's on the track, and I am still using the same Engel fridge.

Yes the trip has changed dramatically since the old days when I used to do it. I still remember one time losing sight of my steering wheel cause it was vibrating so fast it just disappeared. I must say that since it was made tar sealed all the way the trip is a breeze to do, I can be in Pt Augusta in around 10 hours.

I probably do this trip between 10 and 20 times a year. I once did it 12 times in one month back in 2002.

I also drive from Alice to Newcastle and vice versa via Broken Hill 2 or 3 times a year which is why I wanted some creature comforts this time in the Prado.

Well I called the dealer and the car has arrived. Now the race is on to have it ready by the weekend when we go away. Here's hoping!! Not a bad guess they made, it will be almost to the day that they guestimated.

Nice one Mav. I think you and I have been waiting a similar amount of time so it's damn good news that your pickup date is locked in. And a good idea about stipulating NO test driving. I got taken for a ride in a sold D4D a few months back. It's the only way new customers get anywhere near a test drive at the moment. So it definitely happens. The best idea is pickup asap to give em as little time as possible to muck around with it.

Yes a similar thing happened to me when I was checking out cars in the beginning. One dealer said " I really cannot let you test drive this cause it is already sold." Then as I started to walk away, without making any fuss, he says " Oh I guess you can take it for a quick test drive just don't go off road with it." I actually declined the offer and told him I did not think it was right to test drive a car that someone had purchased.

I think we did order about the same.

Yes definitely movement. My tracking page now shows Planned production month: November 2007 although the Order status still shows On Order and I don't have an estimated delivery date.
