There has been some mention in other topics of the Toyota tracking system. Does anyone know how this works? My order went in last Monday and the dealer is telling me that he is waiting for the details from Japan before I get access. Is this correct and how long does it take before this happens?

I was verbally advised the two numbers (customer/batch nos) the day after my order.

From memory , until 21/5/07 the tracking system just showed "On Order"For those checking this thread for a guide to see how long it takes this has been the progress.
Ordered 4/4/07
21/5/07 Advice production in June
1/6/07 Scheduled for production
14/6/07 In transit with pick up 4/7/07(dealer)
20/6/07 On land being prepared for transport with pick up 27/6/07 (dealer)
27/6/07 At dealers pick up by me 2/7/07 (hope so but not 100% sure)
So it has been 12 weeks since order to get to dealer's yard.Pedro

I just got off the phone with my dealer and advised him of this website which seemed to interest him. Anyway he backed up what has been said in this thread that if you were to order a Prado today you would be looking at a Jan 08 delivery.Originally posted by conman

I know Salesgirl from Sydney advised me that this system was developed withthe fleet buyer in mind but my dealer has not been able to get me added to the system. Still I can always ring him and get any updates. He has advised that my car is still on the books for a September build but he also advised that it has not been locked in as yet so it could change. Apparantly he was able to get me on to an earlier buyers order who ordered the same car as myself two months ago. The other buyer had their order filled by another order.

Been watching you guys discussing this issue, but holding back until I had something more than speculation to add.
Ordered VX D4D30 Silver Ash mid-June
Told at time of order that the plant was closed for some time in June and would re-open start of July. (no idea why they would make something like that up really - but interestingly no one else has mentioned this little twist so who knows). As a result my order could not be placed until 1 July when toyota were acepting orders again. Julty orders would be built in August (and be the first of the new "updated" model.
Mid August dealer advised me that there was a delay and he'd update me as soon as they knew more.
Today he told me that it will now be a September build (consistent with what others have been saying about August build being bumped to Sept). He told me the order was part of the batch starting in first week of Sept and would be completed by the end of the first week, with my VIN and other ID details being available in second week of Sept.
He'd then arrange for login details for me to track it online. I'm not a fleet buyer.
So looking like early to mid October delivery for me. (takes approx 4 weeks from rolling off production to ship to Aust an reach the dealer.
BUT - anything could happen!
I know there is a link to the Lexus factory in the general links on this forum, which talks about over 600 cars per day coming off the line there - but does anyone have any info on the actual Prado factory?VX -D4D30 - SilverAsh, Update (Sept 2007), Toyota Towbar, Reverse Sensors, BFG AT's 265/70R17, GMETX3440, ARB Compressor onboard.Comment

Forgot to add that when talking to my dealer today he said that he had a V6 Prado sitting on the lot that they just cannot move as everyone was going for the diesel.Roll on the 2010 Pradopoint GTG

I bought my Prado from a country dealer - after much frustration with the ones in Sydney. They told be 2 months delivery, and it was ready in two months and two days....... and they were really good to deal with2007 Prado GXL, Silver, D4D manual

Tracking
Mav, If they have ordered your car they can tell you your customer number and batch number. Irrelevant if japan has accepted your order.
I have supplied these numbers to customers that have ordered the 200 series Landcruisers, they are fleet customers and those cars are just embryos at this stage. We get the numbers when we hit the order button.Comment

OK. Perhaps it’s just the cynic in me but this is the way I see it.
Some people a getting their order details etc immediately because their dealer, 1. Knows what he is doing and 2. They are placing the order as quickly as possible.
Now, on the other hand there are dealers out there who are simple bull$&%%&@$ us and placing orders at their leisure or perhaps the even bigger cynic in me is guessing there is a directive out there by Toyota Australia that orders should be stalled and spaced out over longer periods of time. Just spoke to my dealer. He has again confirmed with me that orders have to be placed with toyota in the first week of each month. For example if you purchase a vehicle on the 10th of that month it will not be ordered till the following month.
Now, the dealer receives comfirmation of orders in the last week of the same month. I have just been bumped from September to October build.

I don't know if any one else agrees, but i suspect that the dealers and toyota for that matter could have attitude that all the people or at least some that have pre-ordered can wait as it is one in the bank so to speak.
And leave some stock for the person that comes in off the street thus being another sale.

Just spoke to my dealer today and they say there is a hold up on the material to make a particular part in the diesel engine? Havn`t heard that before has anyone else.Cheers Moto

I was told that Toyota will only allocate a certain number of units to each dealer per month, depending on what orders Toyota decides to fill with that month's production. If the dealer has 25 Prado's ordered but only gets in 10 from Japan, then the remaining 15 get bumped. In theory, if you could find a dealer with a smaller waiting list you could get a Prado much quicker as you'd be far less likely to be bumped. So if you could find an out of the way country dealer with a waiting list of only 5 or so, I'd say your chances of a quicker delivery would be far better. The thing would be getting a particular dealer to spill the beans on their waiting list. It might lose them a sale if it was say say around 25 as in my case. I can back up what IRON PAWW has said. I have ordered mine from Barossa Toyota and his allocation per month is quite high compared to say an inner city Toyota dealer.
I'm still on the september build forcast at this stage.[B]Cheers
