It's already on it's way to me Scud, posted by Express Post today. AusPost tracking shows it's coming from Malaga WA, so has to be coming from Prestige. They must be using the other seller name for their eBay stuff, not sure why.

Yeah rang Prestige today, the guy I spoke to wasn't overly helpful, think he was either busy or having a bad day. Did query the eBay thing which he jump off topic so never really got answer? When I mentioned it again the reply was do not price match off eBay, which wasn't the question?2012 Blue Storm GXL D4D Auto | HR Tow bar |Roadsafe Recovery Points | Rhino Platform 42103 | Uniden 7760NB | 3D Matts | Dual Battery |

If anyone in Adelaide wishes to purchase the Uniden unit above, please see Anthony at Electric Bug. He is on the FJCC forum and owns an FJ. We have corresponded previously and from this thread, I have asked him if he could price match the ebay prices and he is able to do so. Feel free to mention me, Andrew or amts from Pradopoint when you speak to him. He is an authorised service agent for Uniden.

Amts/Andrew sorry 'I missed it by that much' to quote Maxwell Smart Agent 86. A mate from work suggested I go out to Electric Bug, that they knew their stuff and would help me out..... If only I wasn't so impatient. Can I blame it on the 'minister of finance' as I had been granted approval and had to spend the funds b4 they were revoked.2012 Blue Storm GXL D4D Auto | HR Tow bar |Roadsafe Recovery Points | Rhino Platform 42103 | Uniden 7760NB | 3D Matts | Dual Battery |

Hey Fido
Good news about the radio and its safe delivery, especially about the tiny bit as I was having a little poke around looking where to install the head unit with not a lot of answers. Think I saw somewhere on here where some one had mounted it under the drink holders in the centre console? Think I have the aerial run sorted, thinking of running it up te side of the windscreen to the roof as currently I have no bar to mount it on. As far as power goes was thinking of jumping on the back of the ciggy lighter in the centre console.
But of course you would be doing a simple....hopefully, swap over of your units.

AFAIK mine is installed under the console between the shifter and the cup holders. I'm expecting the most work to be in pulling the console apart and perhaps having to drill some new holes for the mounting bracket. Since I didn't install the previous unit I'm not sure how easy this is going to be but will certainly give it a crack. My aerial is already mounted on the bullbar so it should just be a matter of plugging in the connector.
Have you thought about a bonnet mount since you don't have a bar? That way you could just coil up any excess cable and have it ready for if you do decide to fit a bar.

Cheers AndrewOriginally posted by BendmanI use a hand held... The reception is reduced by the antennae as noted by AJ120. I have mounted a GME AE4018K2 aerial and plugged it into the top of the hand held GME TX6100 to fix the crappy reception (in a convoy I could hear some of the members and not others). Now it sits in the drink holder so it's as good as mounted but has taken the space of something useful. Feedback I have is the reception is improved to match the others but when I speak, mates say that my volume is softer than everyone else. Due to that and the lost cup holder, a mounted unit is on my wishlist.

If the need arose, I'd mount an antenna to the Prado and put a small socket on the dash so a patch cord could be used from that to the unit. I know not all antennae are equal, but at the end of the day if you're running a 5W hand-held off 12V power and through a decent antenna, there should be little difference between that and a 5W mounted unit...
just food for thought , when i was running a hj75 tray back, chasing a mate in a ute back fj47, we both had c.b's fixed but we whipped up a portable for the girls in the sedans , they were always debating whos car to take
so we got a cb ,put 12v socket on the power, and used a magnetic base arial , to keep in touch during road trips ... the cb was just put on the floor and the arial cord went through the door rubber... the magnetic base nevar moved and the paint never comprimised
would do this again for a portable unit as my uniden hand held no good for convoy stuff, cheers butane..... ..lets take her out for a spin... butane
