  • Which beach?

My favorite place to play in the sand is Beachport in SA.
Where do you like to place in the sand, and why?
Thought we might go looking for more places to play with the Funbus.

And just for a random afterthought....
How do you feel about sand, we've got a mate with an '05 120 (like the funbus), and he hates the sand, gets REALLY antzy about getting it in his prado.
So to you take lots of care or just clean it after?
I'd say we take medium care as to how much sand the kids bring on board, but that's what mats and the dyson are for!
There has been one occasion where the carpet was threatened with being pulled out and pressure washed - or is that just taking it all too far??
    Cheers

Gotta say Beachport is a great spot, but I would take the bush before the beach any day. Can't go past the deserts in western Vic in the heart of the Mallee for sand driving. Not far for you to travel either

Where in western Vic are you?

    Cheers Andrew

Although it's more crowded every year, and clearly won't be the only one, I find it hard to be Fraser Is. But to be fair, I've not visited SA or Stockton or WA or........... you get the idea!
On Fraser though there's so many options, beach driving, sand tracks and water crossings. Choice of ocean beach or protected, fresh water creeks and lakes, the chance for secluded camping or 5 star resort and then there's the fishing! In my opinion, pretty hard to beat, but each to there own. I mean, I don't particularly like country or western music, but I'm sure someone here does :-)

        Cheers,
        Dusty

Roughly 40 minutes north of Port Fairy.
I forget about the mallee (maybe because it is so close?) - might have to get out the map and have a squizz

Rainbow beach is so close for us that it's great if you just want to go for a cruise & play in the sand for a day, but Fraser is heaps better if you have the time because of all the tracks you have to play on. Plus it has Kingfisher Bay Resort which has a good bar to refresh yourself at for many hours

As far as sand in the car goes.......If you come home with less sand in the car than is still left at the beach you've done ok imo.
I'd much rather not worry about it and have fun, then clean the car like someone with OCD on cocaine when i get home, as opposed to being a sand nazi and stressing about the inevetable mess all trip and making everyones lives miserable.

            Cheers
            James.

Im planning on heading down to Beachport in 2 weeks, so I'm glad it's got a good wrap. The anticipation is killing me!
The only spot I've done some decent beach driving is on the beach on the western side of Yorks in SA due west of Minlaton. After a little treck south of the shacks, theres an awesome little dune area just waiting for a Prado beating. Lots of fun!

Gotta say Fraser would be hard to beat. But I am a bit biased considering it's right on my doorstep

Fraser would rate as an amazing place to visit (twice) but for me close to home, Nine Mile Beach (Blacksmiths to Redhead where I grew up) or Stockton rate very highly for the fun driving close to home.

Friendly Beaches near Coles Bay has been fun, but I do like the beaches near Pieman Heads on Tassies West Coast (but that could be just because there's not usually many others around)

Boranup Beach (WA)just nth of Hamelin Bay, only a few way in and need 4WD so keeps the crowd away, great sand fishing swimming & surf. Head north to the point & there is a small protected swimming spot, great for kids.

                          FRASER!

Take some care not to fill it with sand, but more care leaning afterwards. Don't want it to look like its an offroader lol.......

Mate you are pretty lucky to be close to beaches you can drive on, carpenters rocks is a short drive down the road.
You might want to check out little desert first, it's safe from drowning the rig, get some practise in the sand if you haven't done much yet....?
