Should say... "the Dingo's are wild, though appear friendly". Do not feed, encourage, coax dingoes into areas where humans exist.

It was a shame we didn't see one dingo on our stay, must have been too busy

Apparently, there are far fewer dingoes than intended. Some years back, I had heard from a well-regarded source that QPWS counted and culled some percentage of dingoes. Later, QPWS wondered where all the dingoes were. They learned that they were less territorial than originally thought, which resulted in double counting and ultimately the culling of many more dingoes than was intended. If true, it demonstrates incredible ineptitude.

UPDATE: ONE person has died and seven others have been airlifted to hospital after a four-wheel-drive rolled over on Fraser Island in southeast Queensland.


Seven injured in Fraser Island crash

A four-wheel-drive has overturned on Fraser Island off the south-east Queensland coast.

The accident happened this morning on the eastern side of the island at Indian Head, when the driver of the troop-carrier swerved to avoid an obstacle.

Three rescue helicopters were sent to the scene, where seven tourists were hurt.

I saw the Bulletin aswell on the News this evening. It didn't surprise me,.....as it's beginning to be a fairly common thing these days. Let's see how many more there are over the summer.
I go to Fraser abit and what gets me is the amount of backpackers you see driving hired Troppies, loaded up with people, and plenty of gear up on top. Most you see drive like idiots on the tracks and beaches, and they rarely observe speed.
My advise is if your on Fraser and see a Troopy full of backpackers,....keep a good distance from them.
I really think more consideration needs to be given to overseas tourists hiring 4WD's and driving the beaches on Fraser.

If you are going to stay at Fraser you cannot beat Waddy Point!

Excellent fishing off the rocks and beach, not too much traffic, Orchid beach service station handy and did I mention not too much traffic.

Because it is further north the backpackers don't go there often and there are mainly just locals and people fishing. So no turkeys wrecking the serenity.

The beach camping area is my favorite waking up to looking at the ocean and a 5 minute walk over the hill to facilities keeps the fairer sex happy.

A camper trailer should not be a drama they haul 20+ feet boats up there all the time. Even at high tide the beach is passable pretty much all the way up, albeit slowly, so there is no real stress there. Sure it is further to drive but half the pleasure of a Fraser trip is driving along the beautiful beach with the windows down listening to your favorite tunes and the waves crashing next to you.

Ummm backpackers ,followed alot last time on Fraser talk about top heavy, down right scarey.Worked with Sth African guy who did the Fraser troopy thing ,tells me driver in there truck english lass was picked not for her driving skills ( licenced only 2mts england) but her sobrity during the day.Says feared for his life at times,but went along for the above reasons.As for the dingoes they are pretty fearless around popular spots, but up a the cape they are a little more standoffish.Carry a slingshot the rangers do. Will be going back next year to check out more of the inland spots and btm end as we seem to just head mainly to the top end for the tailor, so I have been told by mrs tinkera.Hard to please. I have taken her on 2 housboat trips up the inside of fraser from tin can bay to kingfisher bay, each trip taking a week,She say,s dosn,t count because it was on water.Any way Merry Christmas ,Happy new year to all . Hi,
We are heading up there this weekend, staying at Happy Valley. Does anyone know what the conditions are like at the moment? It has been raining for a few days done here. I'm hoping some has made it's way north to pack the sand a bit.

Happy valley is great, stayed at the backpackers once,
