  • Aldi generator

    Hi all

    Aldi is selling a generator in 1 week ( http://www.aldi.com.au/au/html/offers/2827_17287.htm ).
I bought one last year and I am very happy with it. Not having Aldi in WA, my friend got it for me
and send it over from Melbourne for around $80 and I even got it delivered right to my door.
I took the generator on my outback trip last year in the back off the camper trailer . 2500 km off corrugation,
great central rd, Tanami rd, Wolfe Creek and part of the Gibb river Rd. Not only it survived the trip, it performed very well.
Living just outside Perth, we quiet often have power cuts and I can run 2 large fridge / freezer, my water pump ( Watertanks ),
Pump for the fishpond and some lights in the house.
I know, the unit is big and heavy , 42 kg , but it is not to noisy if u run a long lead and it performs well.
I am writing this because every time Aldi got something useful nobody knows how it performs.
    Hope this information was helpful.

Ps. I also got the fridge/freezer unit from Repco for $600 and have no problems either.

I think I saw one of these at a campsite recently and the noise was...annoying (I'm being polite). So great provided you are considerate of fellow campers.

Sorry just my opinion but why would you need something that big for camp?

I use a 700 watter to charge all my stuff (20 amp charger for trailer or car battery, laptop, cameras and even a camping twin tub washing machine)
They can all run at once at I am only using 3/4 load.

Not being a smart ass, but why would you need a twin tub washing machine for camp?

I was camped for a tad over a week with family including a baby still in nappies who also has the occasion where she would throw up from time to time and we were over an hour from the nearest town.

The machine uses about 240 watts at 240 volts (1 amp draw) and around 20 litres of water for 2 loads and we were camped near a river.
We used biodegradable washing detergent as well

Some people can't do without their aircons and microwaves. Just take a look on the caravan forums.

                  Re: Aldi generator

The 4wd club I am in got the Aldi one about 2 years ago and used it probably 10 times for about 3 hours then it died.
We were told that it burnt out because we didn't have enough current draw on it when it was running.
Most of the time it had 1 fluro light and a battery charger running off it which was not enough.
So make sure you put a few things on it when in use to take the current out that is produced, or heavy current usage items like the electric frying pan would do the trick.
Hope you get more hours than we did.
                  Ron.
