After a couple of trips with the laptop running OziExplorer software and natmaps on the wife's lap I needed an improved mounting position.
I managed to find a Ram Mount for it then I just needed to make up some brackets.
by removing the trim either side of the centre console there are 2 good mounting studs either side that I could bolt to these are the ones that hold the centre console ,
Next I figured that there was just enough room for a .9mm stainless bracket to squeeze between the console and the removed trim, , made up a cardboard template and manufactured a left and right bracket which needed a couple of notches cut out so it didn't interfere with the trim clips. then a top plate with holes to bolt the Ram mount to. with it all bolted together its as solid as a rock.
with the laptop closed for normal road driving it is out of the way and doesn't block my view, then when it is up I am on dirt so not so concerned about a small blind spot .
The ram mount had an optional bracket to stop the lid from bouncing down on rough roads.
I figured that would come in handy on the CSR at the end of June
