  • Hi-Lift Question

I just got myself a Hi-Lift Jack (genuine) and have been told that I can lift the back of the car using the Reece Hitch point to get both back wheels off the ground. No problem at the front as the Bull Bar has jack points.

I saw in the adverts for the Hi Lift copies that they are rated at either 3000 kg or 4000 kg but the genuine jack is only rated at 1050 kg according to the slip of paper included with the instructions. At this rating I'm concerned over using it to lift the whole rear as it must be more than that. Interestingly, the instruction manual says it's rated to 2273 kg (tested to 3175 kg) up to 48" and 1209 kg (tested to 1818 kg) up to 60".

I find it hard to believe that the rip-offs would be rated that much higher than the genuine article. I'm guessing they are quoting the test load not rated load?

Anyone know why the instruction manual and included slip of paper are different?

    Not entirely sure why, Trekrider.

But my jack is the only thing that has been replaced under warranty on my car. It just started slipping gears at close to full extension. So they must be on the limit for lifting a Prado

Gears? Sorry Greg, are you talking about the Toyota jack here? My question is about genuine Hi-lift brand jacks.

I've just got a Hi-Lift as well, and I'm pretty sure I read in it somewhere that you should not lift more than 1 wheel off the ground at a time.

I read that too but thought that was more from a stability point of view rather than load. They are quite unstable but in an emergency you do what you have to do considering the risks. I have heard of them being used to jack the back up and then deliberately pushing them over to move the back out of a hole - not sure I would like to try that! It also says, don't lift the inflated tire more than 2" off the ground.

I use my Hi-Lift regularly and have alwisy lifted 2 wheels at a time. accorsing to the Hi-Lift site they are capable of..."the Hi-Lift Jack offers a rated capacity of 4,660 lbs (2114 kg) and a tested capacity of 7,000 lbs (3175 kg)."

              You should be good.

Thanks FlyNdrive, sounds good. I suspect the reduced spec is due to Aussie HSE rules.
