  • paint protection for off road

    Hi,
any ideas how i can protect my currently unscratched 120 from the damage it's bound to take when off road (branches etc.)
A permanent solution would be good as i wont want to apply film every time i go out.

    cheers

Stay away from lantana thats the only solution.

best is a good polish then wax wil reduce it but wil get scratched once u get branches down the sides unles u apply one of those spray on coatings other then that get yourself a shitbox u dont hav 2 worry about its virtualy impossible 2 keep sratch free if u intend do n bush tracks unless applyn a coatn on it i used the best money could by in the way of wax but the old 95 series stil copped it mainly down the sides, this is the stuff that I know of..... http://www.autoskin.com.au/

+1 for that. I have a graphite and have hundreds of pinstripes. I wear them proudly ( as that is the only thing i can do) :-) or You can look at this below link which is costly.

I saw a GQ Nissan last Easter with vinyl like sheeting stuck to all the side panels. This material was about 1mm thick and covered most of each panel.

No idea if it was a commercial product or not. It was a dark colour and matched reasonably well to the vehicle.

Magnetic signs will help, just get some blank ones made up to the same colour of your vehicle, that way they wont stand out either. They are not that expensive either.

I use 600mm white magnetic sheeting down both sides cut to suit. I have crystal pearl paint so it pretty well blends in with car without looking too different. After going down some tracks with branches have found this generally offers good protection. Not sure how it would look with contrasting colours though.

Hi Croozza, I like the sound of your idea, where/what would I look for in say local phone books to get some thing like that ?? Would be quick and easy just to whack on then take off when finishded the trip, not too concerned about roof or bonnet, mainly down the sides cop a flogging like most peoples vehicles, mind you when we did the high country we had to drive through black berry bush to get out due to fires, wow that stuff was like running your fingers down the chalkboard, down the sides and over the roof, thank god I was in my old 10g hilux, that scratched the absolute crap out of all 8 4wd's Regards Steve

                        Hey Steve
Just do as said above, do a google search, there should be plenty of companies out there that do them, and if you have a business, you can also go for a vehicle wrap, this also stops scratches, and when your ready to sell, it just peels off and the paint would not of faded. So it is a double bonus.

Lucky mine's white then :-), also being a 2003 the paint work is a little cloudy in places so a good excuse for me to get it sorted out. :-)
