New Member intro from Stormtrooper and family
Hi all,
We purchased our 2009 GXL Prado D4D Auto from the auctions in December 2013 and it was a dirty, plain rig with 186,000 kms on the clock.
We drove it from Brizzy to Sydney and started mods almost immediately after a wash and interior clean at some car wash joint in broad beach as the missus was adamant she was not driving to Sydney sitting in that filth!! The car came with window tint, factory tow bar, sovereign bar, side steps and some shitty car mats. Oh and a 180 L long range tank!!
Over the period to now we have added a few pretty well standard mods including ,
Wet Seat covers
Safari snorkel
Max tracks
Imitation Sand grabber mats trimmed to fit
Red arc duel battery system and aftermarket tray
Cargo Barrier
UHF radio( mounted in the small tissue box holder inside the centre console box) Is this a new spot? Will also run an external speaker but can hear fine with the volume turned up and the lid closed!!
GPS/ Stereo/Reverse camera
Roof rack with awning
Second hand centre console and shiny new silver dash inserts from the wreckers
Dash mat
Window shields
Headlight protectors
Tough Dog 2" lift
Opposite lock driving lights
Rear floor mat from Supercheap(awesome)
Scan gauge
CAT secondary fuel/ water separator
Sovereign bar winch cradle and Grande MK 111 12,000 pound winch with Dyneema rope
LED interior light kit
Rear Anderson plugs and two 12V cigarette style outlets
First Aid kit
Air jack
Compressor (supercheap brand but runs pretty good)
Tyre deflators
Awesome kids seats with six point harness and side impact shells.(Cant remember the brand but will edit later. Small shop in Cabramatta was the bomb.
I think that's about it apart from the Storm trooper sticker i am throwing on next week as we reckon the white rig with the wheel arch guards look like Armour.
The car runs great with as low as 7.5 L /100 on the freeway and around 9L/100 around town.
Looking at TJM under body three piece kit next week and some diff breathers.
I have one pic of the day we got the rig but didn't take pics of mods because I am a lazy, forgetful peanut sometimes!!!
We live in the Southern area Sydney and will be looking to join a FWD club any day now. Education and meeting new people cant hurt!!
Great to be here and we look forward to learning about our rig and yours and hopefully contributing any tips or handy experiences we have had or will have.
Apologies in advance for poor punctuation, and generally not knowing much about FWD mods!!
Also seems i accidentally posted in the wrong thread instead if the intro one. Can it be moved there?

Gday my mates called me Rod (nickname). Bought a silver 08 d4d with 105 kms on the clock with option pack 1 (i think or 2). Was babied round the Perth metro by an elderly gent who ferried his golf clubs to his local, lol. So prior to that spent some time reading up on potential issues for that model.
Site has been invaluable and some solid contributions by a number of members. Cheers. I have great mechanics so with info from the site and their knowledge picked up a Prado in very good condition. Happy new year.

Hi Everyone recently purchased a 2013 Altitude after id had enough of my Nissan. I picked it up bog standard with a ARB deluxe bar fitted and with 30,000 on the clock, took it straight to ARB loaded the back up with everything I could fit then drove it up north to fit everything.
2013 Prado Altitude 150.
ARB deluxe winch bar.
OME 2'' lift.
Safari snorkel.
ARB intensity spot lights.
BFG KO2 265/75/17.
GME two way.
ARB Shade annex. (need to make custom brackets so it will fit under the carport)
Touring set solar screens.

Model: Toyota Prado GX KDJ150R
Year: 2011
Colour: White
Accessories: Bullbar, spotlights, side steps and rear cargo cage.
Wishlist: 2 inch lift, snorkel, and in dash dvd/gps.
Thanks for the add on the site. Recently purchased the above vehicle with 56,000km. Not an ex mine or govt vehicle but some company that was contacted to state govt. Purchased to tow a camper trailer to the NT.
Only issues that I have with it at this stage is I only have one proximity key fob and don't really fancy paying $500 for a new one (so if any one wants to pm me a cheaper option that would be cool) ☺. Lastly I cant seem to find where to buy a factory OEM head unit that has reverse camera and sat nav.
Again thanks for the add to the forums and so far compared to other forums I'm liking the no BS and friendly attitude of the forum members.

Hello All,
Quick introduction
I have a 2013 150 series diesel 140K on clock, it was my work car so kept it pretty standard apart from heavy duty tow bar and Tradesman full length roof rack most other items are portable like my 2nd set sunraysia rims with Micky M/T's, I usually run BF A/T's but some of snowy country and particuarily high country around Jindabine really needs muddy's, portable ARB compressor, snow chains, recovery kit, turfer etc but as it has run end of lease I have bought it (Found out will be probably getting a Ranger or Amarok next hoping for the Ranger not sure of amorok without low range and 8 speed box ).
I work in communications industry so see a hell of a lot of Vic High country and towers on top of hills and to give you an idea recently finished an upgrade to a lot State mobile radio towers at Telstra sites located at:
Mt Nugong (Omeo)
Mt Pendergast (Omeo)
My Bogon (Bright)
Mt Yongal (Kan Koban)
Seldom Seen (Bucan)
Mt Useful (Licola)
Snowy Range (Licola)
Cann Mountain (Cann River)
Mt Terrible (Jamison)
Basically if it has a tower on it I have probably been to it so I see my fair share of 4wding, nothing extreme but typical access tracks andcar has worked admaribly
The car is a little pin stripped and a bit rough inside from tools and like but I bought it knowing it service history which was every 7500k's for $17K ( I have a generous boss)
My intention is setting up a touring rig I really would like to do a couple of the desert runs, Stock track, Cape York and as car will be garaged most of time have chance to do some work and I am looking at two year project as oldest will be 10 and second one 8 so will enjoy :
Now the bad, it has a Toyota Aluminium aftermarket bar, I said my boss was generous but not smart when he bought it he though he was doing me a favour buying the bar but being Aluminium you cant fit a winch. Some aftermarket ICON crap TV navigation system which has never worked and a few tears and scratches inside but I think I got cheap it is straight and reliable and most k's apart fomr4wding hills has been highway cycle.
So my plans
1. 2 inch lift
2. change bull bar and fit winch
3. Triple battery system ( Dual under hood and 3rd in the back) I said I work in Comms so get a load of old Telcom and Optus 100AH sealed batteries so those local EM me I get them typically in batches and give a lot away as they are a 10 year battery and we change out at 5. To explain the third battery I want to as a louver install 3 solar panels on draw slides under my roof rack which I can slide out and they will charge the third battery on trickle via a regulator.
4. Led Bar and spotty's
5. At cooler
6. potentially put in water cooled turbo cooler (advise needed)
7. change rear bar and put in a swing bar with dual jerry holders
8. UHF
9. get rid of crapy chinese TV navigation system
10. good set of draws
11. fridge
touring and desert type driving is not my expertise so I am looking at a lot of these threads. but first cab of rank is the suspension as I have a weeping shock and currently considering Old man Emu nitro sport but interested in opinions particuarily for setting up a touring rig which will likely tow
Anyway hoping to also maybe join the odd run out of Melbourne I know a few secrets tracks (and have most keys :-)) in the high country.
See you out thereLast edited by crog; 12-01-2016, 07:23 PM.
