Greetings everyone.
This will be my first Prado, a company supplied 2006 GRJ120 with the 1GR-FE motor, in GX trim complete with fluro stripe and a (removable) flashing beacon that will keep the kids amused for hours. It's been in the fleet since new but never been an ops vehicle, 45,000 easy highway kms and tootling around, one careful owner (my boss!).
It's on an unrestricted personal use deal so expect to see the fluro stripe in the darkest WA winter nights, camped somewhere out back. We're a mad keen camping / fishing / 4WD family, we'll be towing a South African made off-road trailer and sleeping in the legendary Southern Cross swags. So all up the vehicle is pretty much perfect for our needs.
Previous Toyota history:
1. 80s: Hilux pick-up on the farm at home in England. Probably the first in the county and was regarded as Jap sacrilege by the locals. Like burning the Koran. Or marrying your sister. After it had recovered countless broken Land Rovers people started taking notice.
2. Then an early 60 series 2F petrol in Norway that took me up and over back through Finland and Sweden and all over. Slowly.
3. 90s: In South Africa a Hilux Double Cab with 2.2 petrol (4Y) that took me >260,000km in 12 years. Longest trip was a 45,000km 14 month trip from the Cape to the Sahara and back again. That vehicle was a legend.
4. 00s: First an imported Jap Surf 3.0 3VZ-E in NZ. Brilliant touring car for NZ conditions.
5. Then a company mine vehicle – ’08 70 series Troopie with the 1VD V8 diesel. Wow. Lethal in the wet when the boost came in.
7. And now a 2010 Kluger for the wife, which is what we’ve been using around WA this past year.
When we’ve settled into Kal I want to start a new build for a between-jobs 9 month Aus all rounder. With wife & two little fellas, towing a 700kg trailer plus gear, we’re pretty sure we’ll start with a stock Prado 120 series and go from there.
Have been reading through the threads on this forum and am really enjoyed with what I’ve seen.
Cheers
Dave
