Rear seat interchangable? Prado '96

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows if the '96 model Prado rear seats or backrests are interchangeable with newer ones that have headrests. I have a child who needs to sit in the back but his head sits well above the seat. The concern is in case of any accidents.

I don't think so. The 2nd gen 90 series Prados (with 3rd row Head rests) have a different mounting system.

Where are you located? A near by Pradopoint member (with a newer Prado) may be able to meet up with you to check for seat compatibility.

(this is from an approved Vehicle compliance Person),
He said, you need to get the mounts (from the updated model, the ones that attach to the rear part of the wheel arches inside the vehicle) with the seats, the floor pan is exactly the same throughout the 90 series (the common mith was that they changed it, not true), and it is then a matter of bolting in the replacement seats.
You can do the same for the middle row seat, so that you get the split fold set up of the update model as apposed to the single fold set up of the older 90 series.

I've learned something new today. I think I'm going to look into getting the split middle row seats for mine now.

Hi guys, Thanks heaps for the information. I can see a few modifications coming up. I too might look into splitting the middle row seats as I have a car seat on one side stopping the whole seat from folding down for easier access to the back.

Just keep in mind the different trim colours and materials, you may have to buy the front bucket seats and the door cards, so that it looks standard.
