a piece of paper might not be enough. i would hold a thick rag over it tightly with my hand and see if it stalls.

When I bought my Safari Snorkel from ARB in Brisbane I was told that there is no warranty if it wasn't installed by them (If I were more critical at the time I would have enquired re what amazing warranty WAS offered by them if they did the install).

Did the install myself and sealed all of the joints with silicon, but did not seal the water drain hole duck beak thing in the bottom of the air filter box. I have since noticed what looks like evidence of moisture making its way to the air filter box, not surprising if driving through pouring rain at 100km/h regardless of the drain holes on the snorkel head. Have those who completely sealed every drain hole noticed any moisture in there from rain?

When I had my Prado in getting some items at ARB. One of the guys had a look at my safari snorkle and noticed that it wasnt fully sealed. He promptly sealed it up, no charge when he was doing a once over.

Yep there is a waterline a couple of mm around the sealed duckbill valve. Those couple of ml water are unlikely to make it through the filter to the engine. A 100 ml or so leaking in when you stall in a deep water crossing could do real damage. Just my opinion.

I've had a gripe about this a few times on here. The Safari snorkel i fitted to my 95 T/D was really good. The pipework supplied to connect to the airbox was absolute rubbish. The expect you to connect a generic rubber pipe to your existing ducting. The existing ducting is nowhere near waterproof.
I ripped all the existing ducting out and made up a new pipe with exhaust tubing, connected it all with rubber pipe and clamps. Only way to be confident in a decent water crossing.

Yeah Chriso, as per my previous post I totally agree with you. The pipe work from safari to connect the flexi pipe from the snorkel to the original inlet was a total joke. That many bloody bends and joins was stupid, and I swear my performance died in the arse after the snorkel was fitted, was gutless prior, snorkel made it worse. I totally sealed my'n off 100% myself, even the ducks beak was sealed up, pop rivets holding the plastic shit together from the factory had a blob whacked over them as well inside the air cannister. Never had an issue with excess water in the air cannister after driving in pissing down rain.......Cheers Steve

                      Hey Guys,

So your saying its best to seal up that little ducks beak thingy in the bottom of the air box? Curiously what is the best way to do it? What is best used to seal the rest of the pipes together?

                      Thanks Troy

Yeah Troy, I filled my'n with sensor safe silastic (black). I pulled the duck beak out and sealed around it then put back in, then I filled it up as well till it was coming out the top and bottom, then smeared it around. I did it with all the joints as well, filled them up then pushed together tilll it spewed out then wiped around join as well then wiped off excess. I didnt drive myn for 12 hours after doing it so none of the seals would vibrate and seperate. This was on the 90. Going by the 120 safari I have (but havnt installed it yet) there is only 2 small rubber sleeves so will only be a wipe over as such. I also did where the rubber induction pipe joins the throttle body, just a small smear then push the rubber felxi pipe back over. Also check any of your rubber flexi pipe (original toyota ones) to make sure there is no deteriation or cracks in them. The 90's did seem to crack in between the ridges with age. When your doing a crossing and your going along nice and steady its fine (you nearly get away without having a snorkel, especially with a blind on) BUT it's if you get hung up on some thing when yuour in trouble as the water just comes up in and around the engine etc then bang. Only takes a shot glass of water to kill a diesel engine, filter will only soak up so much. You can see in my pictures prior to snorkel fitment the mud it sucked up.......Cheers Steve

you may be able to remove the drain rubber and fit a grommet then silicone around it!
I did this on my Prado.

                              Hello Everyone,

I have finally got around to start sealing up my air intake system, with safari snorkel. And I have a few questions for those guys out there who have already done this or have advice on what to do. First Photo is of 3 holes in the lowest point of the filter box, should i silicone these holes up or not? I assume if water does it get in though the snorkel these holes would allow for it to drain out of the filter box?

Photo 2 is a random hole in the top/front of the filter box. Should I silicone it?

Photo 3 is the ducks beak thingy, which from what i have read most people silicone up, although in design you would hope to think that it wouldnt draw in water. Whats people thoughts on this one?

                              Thank you

                              Troy

Yep I'd be sealing up every single little hole you see. On my old prado I even smeared a tad on the bolts holding it down (probably a bit over board) Make sure also all the joints are sealed from the snorkel through to the airbox. I had no silicone anywhere on my 90 series which was done by the so called professionals.....I redid the whole thing.......Cheers Steve
