      Hi Guys

This has been an interesting read.
I installed mine myself and wasnt happy with the parts the snorkel came with. I ended up using my own pvc pipe from the adopter to the air filter box which i primed and pressure glued.
(Not that i ever would but its never coming off) I sealed the holes in the air box but left the one way valve (duck beak) as is, as i thought theres no way in belting down rain at 110kph that all the rain water that enters the ram head would exit the hole at the back. Therefor the water has an escape route. Also i would think that if the air box was under water the the air would take its much easier path through the snorkel head?

      Any thoughts?

      cheers

I had no silicone anywhere on my 90 series which was done by the so called professionals.....I redid the whole thing.......Cheers Steve
        Thanks Steve,

Was the same with mine, i had it installed over 12 months ago i would of liked to think that the professional fitter would of siliconed everything up. Although i do have a concern if you block those little holes where will the water that comes in the snorkel when its raining etc escape?

          Grano,

Did you have the 3 holes in the bottom of the air box, as shown in photo 1 post 29? I figured those were there to let water drain out. I was under the impression ducks beak was for rocks and bugs and stuff like that (thats whats always in mine). I could be totally wrong just thinking out loud and curious to others opinions

Yeah i sealed the 3 holes up. Mine always has bugs and stuff in it too but any water that enters the head would have to end up down there too id imagine.

In general even just having a blind in the front of the vehicle without a snorkel and you would be fairly safe. For me its extra assurance by having the snorkel if you have to stop, or get hung up on some thing, or need to reverse back this is when you will suck water up into the airbox as you have stopped that bow wave you would have had happening is now gone. Those few small holes would let water in pretty quickly and don't forget you still have the motor running so its going to be sucking it in, think of putting a bucket in in your sink full of water with a few holes in the bottom of the bucket and see how quick the water comes in, then add some suction to it, in this time your trying to attach a snatch strap (really should have this hooked up prior anyway) then you need to hook to another vehicle to pull you through, or worse case you need to winch out by this time that airbox will be full and the engine will be slowly by now sucking it through your air filter and now making its way into your engine, 15/20K for repairs thanks for coming. It would be coming into vehicle also by now but may save you big time if you have a snorkel and its sealed 100% so you can leave the engine running and get out of the water before the water gets high enough in the vehicle to get to the Ecu or other electrical equipment. I had driven through some pretty torrential rain when I had my 90 and just out of curiosity checked the air box after woods and there was never any sign of water/droplets/mist of any thing in there. As far as bugs go you can place a sock over the ram to stop this. Yes I reckon I had more bugs in the airfilter then prior to the snorkel as the snorkel is going to pick them up aand suck them down compared to the original pick up behind the guard but they dry out super quick when their dead and just a quick remove of the air filter canister and gentle tap out will remove them all within a couple of minutes, no big deal...Cheers Steve

The ducks beak is their to let any water out, not rocks etc. Some people seal this up some don't. I rang safari them selves and they told me to seal it up as well so I did.......Cheers Steve
