3 cheers for Snaga, this is one of the reasons more threads get started, when people are browsing and find threads with non descript titles they don't know to look at it for the answer to their problem.

I was almost going to have a go at a couple of people who started threads today with dumb titles, I bit my toungue though (so to speak)

      Cheers Andrew

Excellent, I actually started to create a thread on this morning and thought better of it.

It makes it impossible to search for things when you get useless titles.

I am also in the habit of not answering questions in these threads, likewise people who start a new thread with their 1st post asking a dumb question, I just ignore them.

            Cheers Andrew

hey guys this has brought up a problem that needs to be addressed on this new site . ive tried on numerous occassions to search for articles that i know are there from the old site but the advanced search bit ,if thats the one you are talking about is absolute f*%$ing crap . sorry about the profanity , but this is why we are getting all the same old questions . unless you know or work it out that you need to go the bottom and search specific sections in the time frame ie . last 3 months , last 100 days , since the beginning and trawl through years of crap you won't find jack s*#t . believe me ive had to do it numerous times to go back and find info that i know is there . so you can't expect newbies or the computer illiterate like myself to find this info easily . this is not an attack on anyone im just stating that this is what i have found . i have mean't to bring this up before but haven't . i too am getting the dirts with seeing the same questions being asked time and time again , but the new site is not that inviting or as user friendly as the old for looking up info . im not bagging it ,it is much easier in a lot of ways , especially for posting pics . but like i said the advanced search window , which is what most morons like myself would go to , usually comes up with sweet FA . feel free to advise me , i am an idiot when it comes to these computer thingys .

wooley , thats what mine usually comes up with . a google search which then redirects you back to some obscure ,useless bit of rubbish that has no relevance to what you were looking for , and this is when im looking to go back to info that i have acessed previously . ive even typed in the exact references and come up with NO MATCHES .

It didn't take long for this thread to go off topic

I agree that the site search function is basically useless, however I now only use google and find it very effective. I have a google search in my toolbar and I just type in Pradopoint.com: and then my search words, it works great for me.

At the risk of repeating myself as I have talked about this elsewhere, I think that people in this day and age don't think far past typing something into a search engine and waiting for the answer to pop up. I often manually just look through the thread titles (which is why they need to be descriptive) looking for answers, with the new forum you can list subjects by the number of replies or the number of views, this is a good way of finding the most popular, so often the most useful threads on a subject.

The problem with newbies posting well covered topics again, and non descript thread titles was an issue long before the upgrade, and on pretty much every other forum as well.

I should add that I am just about the least computer literate person I know, but by reading PP I have worked out most of the above.

I believe the problem is that people think that forums are for them to ask questions and for others to give them the answers, where as I believe they are about sharing information, if everyone gives a little then everyone can take a lot (if they search properly)

And he steps down off his soapbox...............

                          Cheers Andrew

+1 but I use search terms siteradopoint.com which gives more results and from pradopoint.com only. Therefore less manual filtering of the search results.

It seems this thread's title is no longer relevant as the discussion appears to now focus on the forum's search (in)ability. Seems you can't win.
