Just don't buy a Prius if you plan to keep it long term because my work has them as company vehicles and the local dealership who service them reckon the batteries will only last 8 to 10 years and cost $7,000 to replace. They'll be a dirt cheap used car soon.

Our second car is a 2001 Camry manual. Cheap as chips to run and very reliable. Have recently picked up a 1997 Corolla for my son to use when driving to Uni and for my daughter to learn to drive in. I guess you could say we like Toyotas but they usually get you home!!

Before the Prado we had a Rav4 2007 model, great bit of gear! So much so that my wife still comments she misses the Rav when parking etc. given the option I would buy another (or a Kluger) in a flash however work makes me drive a new Ranger. Although a build up on a 40 would have me tempted...

I now drive the Prado she has my Lexus RX330 which was my daily the R8 a weekender and a kluger is on the way then I can sell the Lexus.....musical cars lol

My wife gets the 150 Prado during the week but I do own a 2007 Hilux dual cab D4D and love it. Both with the same motor, although the prado gets the extra torque but with that comes about 400kg extra weight. Both great cars.

                    Hey there,

Might be a little off centre here but sorry guys, but I get a bit goat of hearing, "Our car is better than that one" argument unless it is an unbiased and constructive comment and I don't believe some of the ones I have read here on the forum fit this.

I've just done the run around all the big brands to determine a suitable bus to replace my 2008 Pathfinder ST work car and instantly went to look at the 150 Prado. In my job, (emergency services) it is essential that the vehicle is ready to go at anytime at a moments notice, day or night and then not let me down on the job as at times, it can mean a matter of life or death. The Pathy has been fine but is a little low in the undercarriage department as well as the seats being a little harsh on the behind after an hour or so. I must admit that 150 Prado is a great vehicle but is expensive now compared to other vehicles so in the end, I settled on a new Pajero GL and am very happy with my choice, waiting on delivery in Feburary so there seems to be a waiting list. (RRP $50,500).

                    Standard goodies include:
The usual stuff, plus two wheel drive select, traction Ctl, ABS, Front & side curtain Airbags and optioned with a factory rear diff lock (extra $700.00 option) all for a cool $17000.00 cheaper with Govt. discounts than the Prado GX. This also included a spec. up to include a factory front bar, tow bar, reversing sensors and tinted windows. The curtain airbags are a deletable option so that you can save a further $800 but I chose to keep them in.

Now guys, before you call "traitor" on me, I still love my 120 series Prado VX and wouldnt part with it for its comforts and capability but considering all options for my work vehicle including a limited budget the 150 lost me due to the inital high purchasing cost which would have left me with a base model car and no additional extras and the Paj's great option of a factory rear diff lock (which is something lacking in locally supplied Prado's). I know that the Pajero will suffer in comparison to the Prado in the resale department but that is not my concern for a work car.

Also, sadly, should it ever come to every replacing my beloved Prado, I would have to seriously reconsider my options especially if this new Paj proves to be a reliable, capable and comfortable work steed bacuse at today's Toyota prices, i couldnt justify spending the best part of $90k on a replacement VX.

I guess I get concerned too when you start to read on various review forums that the Prado's seem to have suffer from a few ailments (rear mudflaps, tailshaft clunk, broken diffs, overheating auto's, etc) as of late along with the ongoing and increasing reports of poor dealer and Tojo head office support. I think personally all cars can and will suffer from some issues from time to time but for the money you pay for a Toyota, I would expect better support and certainly better attention to design detail in the first place from the manufacturer. After all, you do not get gravel rash on a rear bump on a Hyundai Getz and the standard for support from Toyota seems to be on the decline since I bought my first 95 series Prado.

I am not normally into bashing other makes and models of 4WD's, particularly Toyota's but I do think that Toyota need to look closely at how they are conducting their business and I would expect that they should lift their game quickly because soon some of us Prado drivers may start to look at other options, causing Toyota to loose their market hold with what is generally a great product. I would hope that we all don't stoop down to knocking other branded vehicles and become all blindsighted to other products when they all have their good and no so good points and are often centric to a persons financial limitations.

I also begin to question why Toyota need to charge exhorbently for a Prado when other brands can offer similar vehicles with very similar spec and capability's for often considerably cheaper prices, with the savings being spent to make them a more capable vehicle. These days, I don't buy into the justification of buying Toyota reliability these days because my 120 has cost me more than my previous Prado to keep on the road. The Roo has hit the nail on the head, "They don't make them like that anymore" as it would hurt their vehicle sales too much.

I also prefer to appreciate that regardless of whether we drive Prados, Pajeros, Patrols or Great Walls, we have one thing in common - "we all enjoy 4WDing" and that's the important thing.

If we are not careful, we could end up looking like the ol' Falcon vs Commodore regime which is just nonsense and often automatically discredits these fine locally produced cars and their drivers. There is no right or wrong vehicle, the right one is the one that is fit for purpose to the owner.

Anyway, off my soap box for now

                    Cheers
                    Terry

I sort of agree BUT a new VX replacement is not 90k my Kakadu cost 84k drive away And that's a Kakadu. A new Exceed was only 8k less but I will just get less for it come resale time so no real sense in buying a paj for me PLUS the Pajero had less features 30% less power etc etc. The 120's are prone to breaking diffs off road the 150 has a larger stronger diff So it appears toyota is onto that and hopefully fixed it. Tail shaft clonks etc seem to be getting fixed with a grease and adjustment like mine did with some needing a replacement shaft. The mud flaps are now longer on the new models with replacements in many cases free to existing owners so effectively I would say Toyota is conducting business very well and rectifying any issues that have arisen with previous models.
Is there a 100% perfect car? Toyota STILL maintain one of the best names for reliability as shown in all car reliability surveys, ask an owner of a 160k X5 BMW if his car has been 100% perfect. Roothy says they don't build them like the used to (thank god ) but they used to have one star safety ratings, poor economy, poor power, less comfort, no electronic gadgets sat nav sun roofs etc etc etc. It seems some want a car to do everything but complain when something go's wrong. the big question and proved by many is you can take a brand new Toyota to hell and back around this harsh country and have confidence you will get there and back and do it in comfort and safety.....so what if the tail shaft clonked when you stopped it won't leave you stuck in the bush. That is worth every cent Toyato charge I can't guarantee the 124k HSE Landrover4 I nearly bought can do that.

my second Toyota probably wouldn`t be one, I love the Prado and I love having one 4wd, but I need a car that can provide a bit of driving excitement and isn`t dynamically challenged, like most Toyota`s. Basically I like a car that I can take for a fun drive into the hills. Maybe the new Coupe 86 or the Subaru equivalent.
stepped up the a 200 LC for towing,
but had a 2012 and 2010 150 Prado GXL auto diesel in Graphite with Bridgestone D697 A/T. Dobinson C59-300/325 and Bilsteins. Accessories : two baby seats. Sidewinder`s Dual Battery isolator and rear power outlet kit. Pirana Battery tray, Hayman Reese towbar with Toyota wiring kit and Brains`s guard.
