06 petrol prado brake light probs

hey all .
my 06 prado brake lights have stopped working.
i have checked the fuses under steering wheel and relys/fuses under the bonnet.

the back tail gate light still works but not the tail gate ones
its not the bulbs ...

i dont know ...
does anyone know what i should try next.
i appreciate any help .

""the back tail gate light still works but not the tail gate ones its not the bulbs ..."" sorry bit confused, the only light on the tail gate is the stop light at the top in the middle, the rest of the brake and tail lights are on the rear quarter's. Im presuming you mean the one on the tailgate at the top is still working ?? If so this is the brake light, and the ones on the rear quarters are not working except the tail lights ?? If this is the case you can rule out brake switch on the pedal other wise the one on the rear door wouldnt be working. Firstly are you sure the bulbs are in the write way ?? I have seen people force them in the wrong way so when you turn on tail lights its actually the brake light lit up and it would be very hard to notice any other lighting. Have you recently had tow bar fitted ?? would have played with the wiring for this especially if its after market as they splice into the wires. How do you know its not the globes ?? Just by looking at them does not always indicate blown filament. Could be an earth problem possibly just with these lights or though normally if its an earth issue it would show an issue with the other lights as well.... Sorry but I cant think of anything else as you have already checked fuses and relays..........Cheers Steve

yeh mate im pretty mech minded ...and i trouble shot before posting ..
i ruled out brake pedal switch as tail gate works ,,,as you said ,and sorry,,yes i meant tail lights on the quater rears.

i have taken them off and checked the globes ...i replaced one a couple of weeks ago and all worked fine until the other day.

no tow bar has been fitted as it has a factory standed on it since i brought it years ago ...

back to the drawing board or auto elec i guess .

i recently towed a mates boat which sent the brake light fuse out which sets off the vsc and traction control lights and brake lights . my trailer 7 pin conector has a habit of getting crud in it which can play havoc sometimes .

I would suggest changing both globes, one could be faulty.
