  • Help fitting diff locks in Adelaide

    Hey there,

I was wondering if one of the Adelaide guys would assist me (read install and name your drink ) a rear locker and compressor in my 90 series. I would love to take advantage of the ARB promo. I think the promo finishes in Feb so there's no hurry, but i just thought i would ask the question :happy face with fluttering eyelids:

    Cheers
    John

I would be hesitant to install it at home. If you have the gear to reset the crown wheel back lash and carrier bearing preload, are confident to installed the rubber o-ring on the diff centre without wrecking it, route the copper tubing and tap the brass fitting to the diff housing then go for it.

I don't know where you would stand in the event of a warranty claim if it is a backyard install. And the most common failure in Air lockers, the o-ring, is most commonly due to a dodgy install.

I'll give you a hand John with the Compressor install but thats about my limit.

I actually did my compressor install and then took the 120 back to ARB for the locker install - save about $180 to do the compressor install and was a bit of fun though I no doubt took many more hours that the pro's do...
        Cheers

Why not a Lokka? Much more DIY friendly, cheaper, stronger and more reliable ( in my opinion ), more user friendly etc. Love mine! Best $490 I ever spent.

              That remains to be seen.

If anyone is interested, I will have my 4wd systems lokka up for sale soon (for a LSD 120 diff)... Today (and Monday) my rig is booked in to have an air locker installed. The lokka is great as others have mentioned, but I like to have the centre open when I'm not on the tracks - just a personal preference.

Cheers guys for all your replies

I got confirmation from ARB today that the deal ends on the 23rd, so need to make a decision. Another $1200 bill Christmas week...

Ben, yes there are other options but after having twin lockers in the old 60 series i am a fan.
Like Declan said, everything involved in fitting the locker, it really needs the proper installer.
Thanks for the offer Micheal and i will chat with you at later date.

                  Cheers
                  John

(wrong state, but here's my opinion...)
I've removed diffs to save labour costs, but I will always have the internals done by a specialist.

Spot on. Do the labour yourself, leave the technical stuff to those who have studied it.

Yep that seems to be the general consensus and i will leave fitting the locker to those you do it all the time

                        Cheers
