After completing 15000 klms with a Waeco plugged in the inverter has blown twice. Does anybody have a solution as to be frank, Toyota have been not so good on advice.

You don't say what model Waeco frig, but just checking the Technical Specs at the end of the Manual, says that a [CF-50] has a rated current draw of 7.0 amps, at 12 volts [84 watts consumption], and 0.7 amps at 240volts [168 watts consumption]. [Watts = Volts x Amps]
Now the manual does not explain if this is peak (starting) current, or running current etc, but it is possible that the inbuilt inverter is overloaded [168 watts] either way??* It is clear that it draining much less energy (about half) from the car when using the 12v supply, rather than the rear 240v accessories output.
There is also a power loss (wastage) in getting converting 12v DC to 240/220v AC, which makes it even less attractive.
As Andrew says, cut out the middleman, and run it directly from 12v.
