  • E10 in NSW

I was reading an article on another website that was saying 91 unleaded was being completely phased out by July, so now the choice will be between 95 or E10. I've head that the E10 can damage the fuel lines and what not, So my question is E10 safe to use on the 3.4 V6 or will i have to pay more for the 95?

I've heard the same thing about 91.
I sure hope E10 is safe because I've been using it for over a year! No issues thus far..

Thats good to hear glen, surely any problems would've surfaced after a year. What about the mileage is it a big drop from 91

ethanol fuel produces problems for boats , lawn mowers and things that sit around for long periods of time . after as little as 3 weeks the ethanol starts to separate and settle , which then wrecks things . but the gov't and the greenies tell us that its better to mow down large tracts of indonesian and amazonian rainforests to produce products to make ethanol fuel than to drill it up from the ground .

So true so true, same as electric cars, hello how do they charge them when they plug then in ?? where does the power come from ?? While I agree with protecting the enviroment and not damaging the tracks we drive etc some of these wankers drive me nuts, same as the ones making the rules for no back burning etc, where were all the greenies when there have been huge bush fires, not on the end of a fire hose trying to save them and peoples lives, to busy sipping the latte's at the corner coffee shop and far as E10 crap goes i wouldnt use that in a pink fit, stuffs injectors, fuel lines, pumps, this is in commodores any way. If I think of it tomorrow I will get my mate to take some pics of the injecter seals and things hes had to replace at the holden dealership he works at. Not including the extra fuel you use, what for 4c a litre difference. I heard that it will be a while as they cant get the supply ?? I know also a few garages around here (Penrith) have reintroduced unleaded back into their tanks ?? One at Regentville is only a new 7eleven taken over from private operator and they have it. If they phase it out I will then go to 95. I thought years ago there was some rule about the 95 not been allowed to be any dearer then 4c over normal unleaded ?? Wonder what happend to that rule ?? Screwed again by this great bunch of wankers in out government.............Cheers Steve

I've tried all the usual fuels for significant periods of time and have concluded that driving style makes a LOT more impact on fuel economy. Even on the highways I've had everything from 12.8L/100km to 22L/100km... and the most obvious difference was my load/speed.

my Aurion hates E10 as far as economy goes and I'll only use 95 in it, 10% ethanol = 10% less milage so I dont see the point. I'm no mechanic but if it effects the milage that obviosly it can't be doing the engine much good. I've found the 98 make bugger all difference but if 95 is phased out i'll start using 98.

Using E10 will not harm the 5VZ, and fuel consumption will not change, when driving on the highway, as I just done a trip to Sydney from Brisbane with E10 in the tanks, and only used 116ltrs (about 11.6 L/100 km) to get to the Western Suburbs of Sydney, this was even driving through the centre of Sydney cause the kids wanted to go over the Harbour Bridge, for the return trip to Brisbane, I can not tell you as I have not refilled yet. This was all done with the Prado chock a block full of gear for 2 Adults and 3 Kids.
Using normal unleaded 95 will only help if you primarilly do city driving, other than that E10 is fine to use for 95% of the time.

I know my wifes yaris which we bought new prior to the E10 crap if we use that in her car we lose 50k from the range compared to when we use 91 unleaded, 50k is a big difference for such a little car with a small tank. 11.6 wow never got that out of my 3.4V6 grande when I had it, best ws 12.2 ever and that was driving easy but did have air on all the way. I just got 11.8 out of the 120 for the xmas break loaded with cargo area full, fridge etc. Last time was 11.6 for the same trip. For the sake of 4c a litre when Im running around town Ill stick to the regular 91 till they phase it out............. Cheers Steve
