I had a few wines camping one night with the other half and about a month later she said our third child was on the bake , I told a close friend who had 2 kids and said he got himself fixed up so there will be no more additions to his tribe but he also suggested that we will need extra seats for the kids and their friends and he knows it has to be a 4wd and that his brother in law was selling his 95 series then it was only about 4 yrs old went and had a look and was sold on it before I took it for a drive , handed over the coin phoned my mate to thanks him and he gave me a serving as his procedure did not work and they too have a third rug rat on the way and he wished he grabbed the Prado before me . And even now many years later he looks at the Prado and kicks himself for not buying it . I still think it is in just as good nick now as it was when we first got it , never failed me done plenty of towing , off roading and the odd taxi job , and no intentions of upgrading . I am about to buy a 200 series because its a bloody good offer but will still keep the old Prado

I always wanted a 4wd and liked the 2004 Prado at the time. After a bad experience with a European build car, i wanted something reliable and hassle free. The prado has certainly proven itself for that and the resale was fantastic. I hope the 150 i have now will be just as good. Also, great car with kids (robust) and remarkably handy to drive and park in the city.

Simply the most versatile family 4wd for touring, off-roading and city life! SWMBO hated Prados because of so many of the "prats" who drive around the suburbs in them, then she drove one.....................
              Cheers, Brad

Always been a Toyota man and when looking for a 4x4 which is good for touring nothing better came to my mind.
Couldn't afford the 150 so settled with a 120 Grande....Owned it for 5 months and have done 18000Kms since.

When I bought mine in 2004 it was the best value for money 4WD around. Seven years later still very happy as it has taken us to lots of great places and got us home.

I bought mine for much the same reasons as the rest of the folk. I wanted a 4WD i could get away in, go camping, go for beach runs and tow the boat. I also wanted the comfort and space of a wagon, over a ute. I couldnt afford the 100's / 200's at the time and I found the Patrol too big and unwieldly around town. Disco's have a reputation I didnt want to test, and the defender is bloody uncomfortable.

Plus, I think the 120 series Prado is the best looking 4WD around.

Overall I couldnt be happier with my Prado.
                    Cheers, Damo

the most important thing about the Prados is mentioned above, ' it never fails to get you home"
something that you cannot always say about the competition

I had a 99 V6 90 series and did some great trips to Cape York, Simpson Desert twice, Kimberleys etc - never let me down apart from drinking too much fuel (3.4L V6). I did look seriously at the 76 series even had a test drive. I would have bought the 76 series but it needs a 6th gear at 100km/h it squealed like a pig, revs way too high for a V8 - so for highway driving it would have done my head in. Also test drove the 200 series, very nice truck but just a tad to big for my requirements. So yes having had the 90 series I was a always going to be a bit biased to the 150.

Huge choice of aftermarket accessories - (Looks great when toys added)
All the safety features even on GXL (90 series only had brakes – poor ones at that)
Manual gearbox – wanted a manual cause the old truck was an auto, good engine breaking and very LL range
Reversing camera – initially thought a real gimmick, but very useful.

Overall I think the car is great – very happy with it.

                        cheers

I had a few 4WD and have always had a thing about how quiet and smooth my cars are, when I drive the Prado I just loved how comfortable quiet and smooth it was, everything else was a bonus. The only car that came close was the V8 statesman I had back 2003-04, but the Prado is still the best and I am expecting the 150 to eclipse this one.

We have had 4wds in the home fleet for a while now (23 years) for all the usual reasons: camping, beach access, bush driving etc. Went to a long wheelbase P... from a shorty when it looked as though the kid on the way wasn't alone. Had to do some work on them to keep up with the 80 series but it was doable. Stayed with P... until they went to the current design of having the seats disappear beneath the floor and a smaller fuel tank (something sound familiar?) and then bought a 95 series diesel manual. Did the typical upgrades and kept it 6 years. It never put a foot wrong and cost us services and tyres in 160,000km. Bought the 120 D4D auto because all the reasons held, basic use plus seating capacity and the bonus was the fuel capacity. Again did the usual mods. Will keep this one another 2 years until it turns 6. Will it be replaced by a 150? Maybe. The 120 was very nearly a Disco or a Toerag but delivery and seating capacity cost them. Will look again next time because the rear seating is an issue because the fridge lives in the car and that means no rear seat at all. A V6 ITD engine may ease that pain. Dreaming on...
