Was wondering if anyone can tell me where Toyota would purchase their oil from, the ones they sell on the shelf not the stuff they have in their tanks in there workshop. Im looking at changing brands (currently use magnatec) and willing to buy the genuine stuff in the green bottle they have on their shelf but just wondering who is it made by ?? Its suppose to be made purely for VVTI toyota engines. I do use it in the wifes car am now thinking I will also use in the prado. Anyone got any ideas who makes it ?? And if not what other brands are people using specifically for the VVTI engine. Suppose to be using 10w 30, the magnatec is 10w 40 and Im not going to use synthetic stuff. Had issues with that stuff before and really made the lifters on my brand new commodore rattle there arse off so have never used it since........Cheers Steve

Not too sure who they get their bottled oil from, but each dealership will have a different oil, it all depends on what contractor they have. Some dealerships will have a better oil than others. The bottled oil may not be as good as what that particular dealer may have in its tanks.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

Thought I would add it to this thread too.
Do different dealerships really use different lubricants, Croozza?
All the ones I've been to seem to use Caltex also, if I recall correctly.97 VX Grande, with front & rear air lockers, ARB Sahara winch bar with tigers 11 winch, 2" EFS lift, 265/75/16 Achilles Desert hawk XMT, and more.

I think Steve is interested in the brand of oil in the 5lt black containers in thje spare parts department and not what is delivered to their tanks in the workshopNew 2015 150s GX 5 seater with floor mats, towbar and a big wish list

Toyota globally still are using Esso or Exxon (same same) ie like the Toyota T4 automatic oil is an Esso supply ONLY
So your Prado when driven off the boat in Australia has esso/exxon-mobil oil in it and the local yokals have done a deal over some boozy lunches with the refinery down the road to have packaged product supplied locally. That is packaged product ONLY, ie the stuff you buy through the dealerships spare parts but not all products check the packaging as some will be imported ie T4 ad some other low volume but the engine oils will be supplied and packed locally so to say ALL Toyota products are Caltex is a how do i say this nicely, incorrect truth.
.
The workshop though is a different beast and will go with whomever they feel gives them the best deal. The majority are with caltex though, due to the packaged product group deal. ATM quite a few are with castrol and then valvoline shell and exxon-mobil fight it out for the crumbs, exxon-mobil loosing lots locally due to closing refining in the country.Last edited by LargeInAPrado; 15-03-2012, 09:30 PM.
