  • light bulb question...

The first time I needed to change the interior light in my wifes Honda Jazz I found that you can't get a 12V 8W festoon bulb. Everywhere just has 5W or 10W bulbs now. (I have found one place but that's in the states off eBay)

I went for the 10W on the advise from the person (kid) in the shop that it'll just run a tad hotter but it blew again within maybe 2 or 3 weeks.

    So, the Q is...
Should I have gone for the 5W or is there something else that could be causing it to blow so quickly.

    It's a 2003 Jazz BTW...

    Thanks for any replies...
    Cheers, Leon

probably an economy brand light bulb 10w should have been ok or there is a problem else where as to why it has blown

It was super crap auto so that's a very real possibility.
      Thanks Fushfinder...

The 10W should have been OK, however there are other factors to consider, such as a bad connection or the size of the wiring.
Try cleaning and bending in slightly the connection tabs before fitting a new globe.
You can also try an LED type, I think you can get these from Jaycar.

          Hi Snaga,
go with an LED festoon for the simple reason that you can buy these both online and from places like repco and autobarn and they come in a variety of wattages depending on the number of LED's. e.g a 6 LED bulb has 6x (usually 0.5W globes in it) meaning a total of 3 watts.
Just be wary of copied chinese brands as they tend to have much shorter life spans. A decent brand one should be in the $10 - 15 range and should be encased in glass. Cheap copys are often just pieces of circuit board betweeb two terminals.

Also alot of car audio suppliers/ installers will have these LED's in stock, so if you have a tried and trusted audio guy thats a good place to start rather than taking a chance on someof the ebay products that are out there.
          Hope this helps you. Shannon.

            Thanks guys,

            I'll look into the LEDs...
I know Repco had the better quality T20 tail lights etc so I'll see if they have the LEDs as well.

From memory the tabs completely clean and it grabs the bulb nicely but will check those again too.
            Cheers, Leon

Snaga, maaaate. It's obvious this is a trick question. Buy a new bulb, any sort, any voltage, made in any country. Throw out the Jazz and your problem is solved.
