Get a leatherman or pair of long nose pliers and get a grip on edge of the metal lip, hold the tube and roll or peel the lip off with the pliers, The metal end will come away from the tube then. Dont spill it ;-)

Yeah transmitted forces - I hit the stump square on and think I push the bashplate up onto the radiator which must have ruptured something.
Again I can't speak highly enough of the rest of the group who diagnosed and patched the problem.
I'll be fitting either Brown Davis or ARB front plate when the the radiator goes in on Thursday.
