I've got a hinged number plate sitting infront of my winch (i'll try and get some pics up for you). I've found that it does make the winch much less noticable but on the down side I have trouble securing it in the up position when I'm winching (leading to one quite bent number plate) and I find that it doesn't flip up enough to (only about 90 degrees, I'd prefer a full 180 but I haven't found hinges that will let me do that). Otherwise it's been great no undue attention and it suprises some people when they realise that I've got a winch.

I like that! Much better than the winchsaver as it is harder rubber...

          Hi Geoff
Your bumpstop solution looks really good and I'd love to releive you of a chunk of rubber if you still have any left and you'd post one to Sydney?
          Happy to pay the postage...

Yeah, the one I saw simply dropped down onto the rope (steel) while running. He had a plastic strip glued to the edge of plate to stop rope/plate abrasion but I thought overall that was a stupid idea. Gotta get the plate well up and away from the rope as mines dyneema.

I was thinking of trying stainless piano hinge along the plates length. That should rotate nicely and keeps the plate flatter than a butt hing would. Maybe some velcro to stick it up... still dreaming at the moment.

I don't know if it's just an urban legend but I was told that folding number plates are illegal - at least in WA. Anyone know if this is true?

Do you still happen to have any of those bumpstop pieces? My dogs will get upset if I cut up their Kong toy.

I read so where to use a boat trailer rubber roller cut in half.
I did this and it is working fine.
I gave the other half to a mate.
It I remember correctly was under $15.00 for the roller

Hey JKAF, What did you use to cut the boat trailer roller? The one I linked above has a hard plastic tube in the core, I'm guessing a hacksaw would get through that but don't know if it will shred the rubber in the process.
