  • iPhone 4s or Samsung Galaxy S III???

Yes I know this is a polarising question but one I have to ask as I'n FINALLY junking the Nokia...

For me I eventually warmed to the iPhone due to ease of use and good email functions (microsoft exchange) but I havent seen the way it handles calendar appointments and havent played with the Samsungs at all.

I dont need the fancy video/photo options or multi-tasking on a phone, just a simple to use, good phone that handles emails on the go well.

I do need a phone that works, connects properly with my digoptions gps unit and I guess can have some apps installed to keep the kids quiet on weekends.

SO - which is it, help me out guys?
    Cheers
    Micheal.

Personally I love my Galaxy S2, and would get the S3 in a snap IF it (which it currently doesnt) supported 4G (LTE). There are rumors of a S3 with Telstra 4G support in the pipeline, so i would be waiting on that. Additionally if your sitting on the Android v iPhone fence, I would wait and see if Apple releases the iPhone5 with 4G support.

At this point in time, i wouldnt be wasting my money on a 3G phone (assuming you are with Telstra and can actually use 4G) when 4G is just starting to take off, and the Telstra 4G network is no where near as congested as the Telstra Next G network is.

Work gave me a new iPhone 4s a few weeks ago. I had an old Nokia (dumb phone) prior to this. I was not into texting or any other phone stuff at all except for receiving calls.
I absolutely love the iPhone. I find texting easy, and consequently communicate via text all the time now, which is very handy for work and life as a soccer coach.
E-mail works flawlessly, as do the calendar functions which update in real time through Outlook. Ditto with contacts updating. I love the intuitive nature of the OS, and all of the little extra automatic things that just work.
Maybe these functions are available in other smart phones.... I don't know because I have never used any others. I find the phone so simple to use, and it has become a real and almost indispensible tool in helping me to organise my chaotic work life. (I have 3 jobs in 3distinctly different industries)
I have four staff in one of my jobs. One has a Nokia N8 and another has a galaxy. The rest of us have iPhones. Guess which two spend a lot of time mucking around with their phones? Ie.... constantly adjusting settings, modifying and trying out crap, and generally trying to get them to work as a total system like the iPhone does out of the box. As the manager of these people, it gives me the sh!ts watching them wasting time playing with phones.
I have never had an apple product prior to this, and never thought I would. The 4s has changed my opinion about apple products. I am a convert and although I am also a complete tight arse, I think I would even buy one myself if work didn’t supply one for me.

I found the iPhone fairly simple to use, so that may work for you. I've currently got the Galaxy S2 and i think it's a far superior phone. It's only a little more complicated to set up, but still easy enough to use. If you get stuck there's plenty of youtube video's to help guide you through most things you're likely to do. I'll definately be looking at the S3 when it's time to upgrade.

They will announce in two weeks and we will all know for sure one way or the other - apparently they are winding down production of the 4s though so that may indicate it is coming out sooner rather than later

I wouldn,t bother with the iphone or the S2. Unless your within 4-5kms of the phone tower the bloody things wont work. You can,t plug a antenna into them so for me just a cheap flip phone with a antenna patch lead plug is a far better way to go.

The iPhones reception is fantastic!? I get reception all over the place that other people (without iPhones) don't.

That has been my experience too.

Also, you can get parch leads for iPhone same as any other phones, so I am missing your point there top truck.

I have both... and would recommend the Apple over the Samsung. Why? I believe the Apple is more user friendly and reliable. And, I've been with a mate (who uses the Apple) when I've been using the Samsung... and his phone has always had reception, whereas mine loses it. I also don't know how many times I've had t re-start my phone because it freezes or stalls. Never happens on my iPhone.

My 2c... but I much prefer the iPhone over the Samsung and am looking for an opportunity to ditch my Samsung (work phone) for the other.

                            Hey Davros
Were on the iphone does the patch lead plug in. The S2 all so has a plug connecter but its very weak looking and you have to take the battery cover off to get to it. Dumb idea that.

do yourself a favour and go with the i phone . in the last 12 months i went from i phone 3 to a motorola atrix which was at the time the latest and greatest thing that telstra supplied with the blue tick for outback reception . if you have had an iphone and gotten used to how it works and like myself are not a computer genius , DO NOT get an android based phone . mine is a piece of junk and as soon as this contract is up im going back to the i phone . as much as i have tried to work out how to use the functions on this phone the only thing i can do with it is make calls or take a picture. the iphone is so user friendly and if you can't work out how to do something with it , just walk in to the nearest pub and there will be 8 people who will be only to happy to show you how to work it . try doing that with something else . i have a friend who is a computer guru who went from the iphone to the galaxy and loves it , but after having had him fix my computer , we have no idea how to use it . as for reception ,it comes down to one thing and that is who your carrier is , if you want good reception anywhere , you need to be with telstra the others are rubbish, i have done many back to back comparisons . my motorola was at hte time the only smart phone to have the telstra blue tick but according to choice magazine it doesn't even rate against the iphone 4 . im goin back to the apple product , and when this piece of junk computer dies , ill be getting an apple product .
03 grande v6 , with added stuff that makes it go places . RTFM people !
