  • Whats with over priced second hand items on ebay?

Gday all , Man , i cant believe the lengths that some people will go to to win an auction on ebay . Two weeks ago i watched a 2nd hand set of 170 Lightforce strikers go for more than new price . Logged on tonight to have a look at what 2nd hand "bargains"are out there and lo and behold a 2nd hand ARB tyre deflator is up to $54 odd dollars already . Unbelieveable ! I'm seriously thinking of breaking up the trusty 120 series into little pieces and flogging them on ebay then buying two 150 series and tickets to the next olympics with the left over change . Kind regards to all, Fletch .

Yep some real dummies out there.
Only $63 new with warranty. Maybe a bit less even.
    PrObably should be worth $45........?

They either pay too much or
Want something for 10% of its new value even if it's as good as new.....

Gotta watch those "bargains" at the seconds shops. Was looking at an oven with a scratch on it at "reduced" price and 1 year standard warranty. Went across the street to Bing Lee to check what the going price was for same and lo and behold theirs was $100 cheaper with 3 year warranty.

Yeah I have sold heaps on ebay from the two 90 series I had, bits and pieces we all seem to gather up, I had fuel, air, oil filters for both, tyres, hoses, the best was my gregorys manual. I bought it myself second hand off ebay for $13 grease and all on a few pages, (its a workshop manual to be expected) when I sold the V6 90 I sold the book back on ebay, got nearly $50 for it then he had to pay for postage as well, now if the bloke lived in the scrub miles from anywhere then fair enough I suppose, but the bloke lived at Wentworthville which is roughly 20 mins from my place (Western Sydney).

Now how many spare part shops would there be in the burbs ??? Shit load i would imagine, super cheap, repco, scottys, autobarn, etc. Most of my filters I got more for them as I pay cost price for most of my parts so nearly doubled on some of them. Same with my lux, I had everything ready for the 300 thou service and we had agreed on a firm price, then when he dropped $100 from the price cause he had to pay for fuel and insurance, I thought fine you were getting everything for the 300 thou service for nothing, now your getting none of it, sold I sold it all on ebay. There's some suckers out there you some times actually feel really sorry for them, some of the things I put on watch just to see what they end up selling for and I think are you nuts LOL..............Cheers Steve

Yeah its crazy the number of people who will pay more than new price for second hand products. You see the same thing at places like Cash Converters. Every now and then I poke my nose in to see if there are any good deals, and pretty much always come out shaking my head. Not unusual for them to have old model cameras, gps, tv's etc for the same or higher price than you can get the current model brand new at Harvey Norman.

The other funny thing I see on Ebay, is the same seller will have identical products listed as an Auction and "Buy it Now", and half the time the auctions go for a higher price than the Buy it Now.

yep i live 200m from a seconds world, 500m from harvey norman and good guys , i see all these people going to and from seconds world thinking they got a bargain . if they bothered to drive 500m they would get a new product in the box for a hell of a lot less . people will buy any old crap if it says SALE or BARGAIN or 75% off . once went into a kmart at the after christmass sales and saw what was a $100 barbecue any other day of the week , it was reduced from $215 to $175 , what a bargain .
