  • Camper Trailer - Spares Kit

Now that I have my first camper, I'm putting together a spares kit. Wheel bearings are a definite, but I'm going to probably just buy a completed hub+bearing kit as in many ways its easier. Some folks carry a complete Leaf replacement. What do people think about this? Also - I'm guessing it's worth carrying around spare suspension components like U bolts etc etc?

Anything else that I should carry which I may not be aware of, please let me know!

It depends on where you're going, I would definately be taking spare U bolts and if you're going somewhere really remote some spare springs may be a good idea.
I did a trip to Arkaroola last year and broke a spring about 30km from there, managed to do some road side repairs to limp into Arkaroola at about 20km/h and then was lucky enough to find some springs I could pick up from Copley the next day but otherwise I would have been waiting up to a week to get them sent up from Adelaide. I also managed to break a U bolt but luckily I already had some spares.
Other things to have in the kit would be grease and perhaps some spare electrical wire in case you damage the wiring on some rough tracks.
I'm still fairly new to the whole camper trailer thing though so I'm looking forward to hearing what others have to say.

You have already mentioned a complete hub as I was going to say castle nuts, washers and split pins. Add some wheel studs and nuts.
If you have electric brakes then maybe some nuts and spring washers that retain the hub to the axle flange

dont go over board just bare in mind on the extra weight in spares you may carry - just the bare essentials beer is a must if you are stuck at least you can drink until help arrives

Thanks guys. Not much more than I thought. I'll probably not bother with the whole leaf replacement. I guess the beauty of a camper is if you do have some troubles, just set it up, sit back and relax, and wait for help to arrive!
