Hi all I also found the mounting brackets quite confusing, so I just drilled holes through main upright brackets on roof rack and mounted there. See pic

I ended up fitting it the same as Troy, hard onto the roof rack. The awning seems alright, sturdy enough for what it is

        Thanks to all.
Wound up buying one after comparing the different manufacturers at a recent show.
No way can you justify the price difference when just about ever part looks identical.

The weird brackets Roy07 refers to are meant to mount underneath the universal type steel trays.
Mine went on a Rhino rack so I cut down the massive heavy weight Tigerz brackets and turned them into simple 'L' brackets and screwed them on.

        Quite happy for $150.
Only problem I hadn't considered is all that extra weight on the roof. Awnings are heavy...

Yes they are all made in the same factory in China, just each supplier gets their name put on it, that is the only difference, but they all have the same inherrent problem, and that is the light construction, do not expect it to last for years and years

Well if the construction was much better, it would be too heavy anyway

How heavy is too heavy? My awning weighs 23kg which is about as heavy as they get, but I wouldn't have anything else.

On a trip earlier this year 4 others had awnings much like the ones discussed here, in 45 degree heat in the desert mine was the only one that got used though because it is strong, quick and provides heaps of shade.

              Cheers Andrew

Not true, try looking at the Hannibal Safari awnings, they are made much much stronger, weigh more because of it but will last you at least 20 times longer.

I just got a tigerz11 one and I've spent a fair while playing with the ARB ones in store. I think the tigerz11 ones seem to be of similar quality and really for half the price, if it lasts half as long, I'll be happy. I didn't have any of the trouble fitting it that others have reported though. It came with no instructions but it also only came with the parts needed so it was fairly obvious in my case.

I have the Gunyah, 2.5m x 3m awning and to be honest it is fantastic. I have now had it for 6 years and it lives permanently on the car and looks as good as they day I bought it. Quality is fantastic, I have had it out in some REALLY strong winds and as long as you put out the guy ropes it is super sturdy, I have never felt concerned it might break. If there is only light winds then I don't bother with the guy ropes at all. My theory is forget the cheap stuff, save the pennies and buy a good quality product once that wil last you for years to come. Saves a lot of money, time and effort in the long run!!

                      Hi All,

I bought a tigerz11 awning about a month ago. The 1st one was taken back due to the external bag being ripped. Credit where credit is due they replaced it on the spot.

My major issue is that the advertised product was 100% Rip stop canvas; however it would seem not much more that polyester with a few squares stitched in it. Did a water test recently and it did hold up (surprisingly), however have seen better quality canvas (?) products around.

As for the mounting brackets that were supplied , overweight and and under quality. Maybe good for their own produced roof racks, however L Brackets of other manufactures would be more than suffice

Overall they seem to produce a product for a certain market. My experience so far would say they need to do a bit more Q and A if they are going to sell them at such a high volume.

The next option, considering the product out there and quality is to replace the polyester and add decent poles and add quality rip stop canvas. (allthough this adds extra weight and once again more expenses)

Do not get me wrong, some of the reputual brands are supplying the same quality and strongly suggest look before you leap, in this instance.

I hope this has hed helped.

Have you compared the Tigerz side by side with the 'name' brands?
I did at a recent show and a lot of the parts are identical including those poles but at a significantly higher price.
Yes, definitely aimed at a certain market but thats my market. I have no wish to cover my truck in over priced bling. If the Tigerz does the job then it'll do me.

Crooza i did have a look at those Hannibal awnings you suggested... Wow you wern't kidding with a much higher price. The starting price for a 1.9m awning is over $900... Ouch..

Finally jumped in on one of these. It arrived late this afternoon. At the price ($170 inc freight for the 2.5 x 2.0m) they're a bit hard to knock back. I figure if I don't use it much or it falls to pieces, I haven't wasted a lot. If I find it useful and it self destructs, then in a year or so I might have to buy something better.

Fitting was fairly easy. I've got a WindCheetah rack, the Tigerz brackets are rather large klunky lumps of bent steel with massive holes in them. I think they're intended to be attached with pole clamps to a full rack. Anyway, not too friendly on my rack so I picked up a set of Rhino Rack Foxwing brackets - much, much more suitable for the windcheetah, but pricey.

They fit perfectly on the rack, and they are solid as a rock. That little offset is just what is required. The hole spacing for the Tigerz is smaller so I had to drill an extra hole in the bracket to suit. Once that was done, Installing on the Prado was a piece of cake.

That's as far as I have gotten, haven't even unzipped it yet!

update: Position of the awning relative to the side of the vehicle:
