Border track closure for summer ???

Hi Fellows,

I'm planning a trip to Mallee in the cup weekend and just wondering whether anyone can give me bit more info
on the Border Trek closure in summer. Some forums suggested that only a section of the trek is closed but can't
find which part....

Any info on this is much appreciated!!

The section from just South of Pinnaroo for about 29kms South until it reaches the junction with the centre track is the part that gets closed. It closes at the start of fire ban season and reopens when the fire season finishes.

This is the section with the really big dunes. North of Pinnaroo, in Sunset the Border Track is open all year and is a pretty straight forward drive, note that there are actuallly 2 tracks about 100m apart here, on the border is slow and windy and 100m East is more open and quicker. Neither are difficult though.

South of the Centre track junction is open all year, this section has the big mud holes and a few sand dunes. Red Bluff is open all year but I would advise against heading there if the fire danger is high. Only 1 way in and out and it would not be a nice place to be in a fire.

Once you go South of Emu Flat road the track get very narrow, don't expect to keep much paint on your vehicle if you venture south of here, although the first couple of k's are graded roads.
