Troy, here a few pics of the device. Brunel would be turning in his grave!

Always seem to have a spare battery laying around.

    Quick fit plug

    to the winch controller

Winch affixed to the garage wall

The bracket is made up of left over angle shelving lengths

and screwed into the rafters with some 80mm screws.

Next I inserted a steel rod through the angle (needed to drill existing holes slightly). The rod is fixed with some wire clamps to keep it in a fixed position. I wanted to get the pivot point right for the pulley. This setup allows me to slide the pulley along the rod and refix with a wire clamp to get the best vertical drop for locating the rack onto the truck. Set and forget.

The pulley has a small wheel but is marine grade and has a main shaft with a good 5mm thickness, whereas some pulleys have bigger wheel but have a weak centre pin.

The cable is attached to chains diagonally fixed to each rack corner

        by a D shackle.

Here's the rack winched up to the ceiling

ready to drive the truck under

The winch has a fairly sedate line speed so plenty of time to swing the whole rack an inch or two if needed to then lower it into the captive feet. Once firmly located on the truck I just undo each corner D shackle and hang the chains off the steel rod ends. Drive out, screw in the securing bolts on the rack and all good to load up.

For long term storage I can swivel the rack 45deg. I'm 6'2" and have no problem having to duck under it. A mate is 6'6" and just passes under

and attach a few guy wires as a failsafe
