How does the 4wd/AWD system work on the prado ??

I'll start it off.......For the Prado, the 4wd system works like this, you have 3 diffs, one between the front wheels, one in the transfer case, and another between the rear wheels, the front one is what is called an open diff, the centre one is called a locking diff, and the rear one is a limited slip diff.

So is it a fact that all rear diffs are LSD on prado's? wasn't sure if this was the case or not and haven't yet gone to the bother of jacking it up to check. I have a 2008 GX which may be regarded as a poverty version so thought if both were available I may have missed out on LSD.

If you don't have traction control then it should be a LSD, having said that the LSD if useless and really may as well be an open diff for all the good it does.

I usually wait till I reach 80km/h before locking the centre and rear diff. The rev limiter gets a lot of attention too. For some reason the parents picking up children from school give me looks though ??

now that the topic is nice and warm..lol

still lol... once i compose my self... i have said on many occosasions i stick it too my V6..
so guess if ya dont drive your awd prado like a A.W.D. in my eyes ,,, your not getting your moneys worth out of the car...

I do drive my prado to its limits, but i have built this rig so i know where we meet in the middle...
i too would like some more theory on the prado awd / 4wd system... as i know how it handles

they are maintained , and a pleasure to drive!.... evan sideways
