  • Kogan products any issues

I am in the market for a new DSLR (Nikon 3200), Kogan have one with two lenses for $639 (($688 delivered to my door)I understand that the camera is the same but with a adaptor for the Aust electrical sockets.
Does any body have any feedback on their products as there is at l;east a $300-400 price difference. The plug issue is not a issue, however is the rest of the camera the same?

    Regards

    Gerry

I got an iPad through Kogan last Christmas - it was exactly the same as you buy here except it didn't have an Aussie plug but did come with a small adapter that is fine.

I have just got a Canon DSLR through them this year and despite saying it came with an adapter it actually came with a genuine Aussie plug fitted. It is exactly the same as you see in the shops here, just much cheaper.

The saving comes from them not paying import duty and you not paying GST as it is sent from Hong Kong.

    Hope that helps.

Until you have a problem... Check the terms & conditions on their website. Most items you have to send back to Hong Kong for repair/warranty.

I know with Apple products, Apple here (or any authorised repairer) won't touch stuff bought from them. They are overseas models, even though they might look/work the same, their serial number says otherwise.

All this aside, you can still get a lot of fantastic gear for very cheap through them, and the risk of something going wrong is pretty low. Just as long as you factor it in.

Have a look at Whirlpool Forums in the Photography section. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/132

Then do a search for a thread on Kogan.

Some genius in our company decided to get the new Samsung 3 phones for work, all came in French 2 from 5 faulty and had to be sent back, Optus our carrier wouldn't touch them to get the staff up and running.

See ya on the tracks, Richo.

I did notice that the DSLR didn't come with a paper manual but they did provide a link to the Canon download site. I simply downloaded the manual from there. I don't know if you get a paper manual if you buy the camera in Australia.

If you buy anything from overseas, Australian Warranty will not cover it, Australian importers (ie Canon, Sony, ect) will not recognise it as it did not come from them, so it is a case of buyer beware, sure it is great to get the same item cheaper than what you get from here, but thereis a penalty if something goes wrong, I looked right into it when I bought my video camera last year, on line from Hong Kong it was $2000, but to buy one from here was rrp $3990. But I ended up buying one from here as I was able to get more accesories thrown in and get an extended 3 yr warranty. Sometimes it pays to still buy from a shop here in OZ.

Purchased a TV from Kogan, quick delivery, work's well and was a good price. Can't comment on returns.

I've bought a tablet and a couple of phones from them. As others have mentioned they're grey imports and not covered by Aussie manufacturer's warranty but that doesn't mean you're not getting warranty, it's handled by Kogan Aus rather than the manufacturer (I'm guessing they ship back to HK). I had a problem with one of the phones and they arrange shipping to and from Melbourne for repair/replacement.

It was a PITA not having the phone for a week and I wouldn't buy a grey import phone again for that reason alone. For the saving I'd happily buy other gear that doesn't get used on a daily basis.

Gerry - Nikon lenses have international warranty so you'd only have to worry about sending the body back to HK if you have any issues, check with them first though

So, not really much different from Kogan then.

My 60D bought from overseas (DWI) came with two paper manuals, one in English and one in French; it also came with an AU plug for the charger. I believe it depends on which market the camera they supply was originally intended for as to what manuals if any you receive (i.e. no point sending you manuals printed in Chinese). If you bought the camera as AU stock then it would come with paper manuals. In any case you can download them from the Canon website but it is a pain having to print them out, also makes them less portable.
