  • My Rig Buildup

    Guys,

After major repair, my PLAIN is now ready to tear down the snowy trails. after a massive fuel line issue, i was worried i could not spend time out during my new year holiday. Problem is solved atlast and thinking of putting some accessories such as roof rack, power winch and cabin cooler (fridge) i am not a fan of lift and extra large tyres.

    So my list would be

    1. very good quality roof rack
    2. good power winch system and mount issue
    3. cabin cooler which isn't battery thirsty

Cost vice, it's not very pocket friendly to source ARB TJM what not, so i am thinking anyone ever installed fabricated safari racks for prado? i could paint coat it to resist corrosion (it's bone dry in Mongolia anyways) if someone have some nice concept sketch, please share? other option would be a small thule type super light racks but i am confident as the plastic ends just shatter in winter.

power winch is problem since i do and will not use bullbar, so i am looking to find something that bolts right onto the frame. it there anything that suit my needs?

cabin cooler i beleive will draw alot of power so dual battery system I am considering. what is the viable auxilary power solution to this issue?

i have seen some good stuff abroad over the years but non of them are present in Mongolia except overpriced ARB and TJM.

Regarding the roof rack solution, some of the members have fabricated their solutions using extruded aluminium which can be sourced pretty much anywhere. I'd have thought that you'd be in a good position to pick it up cheap.

I've got no idea what the roadworthy requirements are in Mongolia, but have you considered paying a metal worker to fabricate you a front bar? Again, being close to China, i'd have thought you should be able to find someone who can knock out an ARB/TJM hybrid.

I found it useful to peruse the other member builds and ask questions about anything i thought i might like to put on my car. Often these mods look good on the car but don't actually meet our functional requirements.

I look forward to seeing a Mongolian Prado build.

      Thank you Mike

There are long list of what NOTs about roadworthy requirements but is not really reinforced here.
Roof rack should be good enough to accomodate two 25L gas tanks and a full size tyre. maybe a fabricated shade which runs along the rack side.

I did however tried a fabricated rock rails but one side is just two cm short and not lining up with the reciever bolts. So I am not looking into something welded, cus you can't rectify as easily as bolt-in solution.

these cheap solutions would save some more for good winch system.

Thank you Mike i will poke in people build threads and see what suits my needs.
