4 Rio Tinto emplyees have been rescued overnight after bogging their Prado in the Fortescue River basin off the Roebourne - Wittenoom Road in WA's Pilbara. They had flown up from Perth yesterday and then driven the car towards the minesite before rising floodwaters caught them out. At one stage the water was up to the bottom of the windows where they spent the night trapped in the car. They reported that they could not see any dry land for 1 kilometre all around them. A helicopter was sent to rescue the stranded people. The car was to have been completely submerged during the night as flood waters from the recent cyclone swept in. Questions were raised by emergency services as to why the employess were allowed to attempt the journey when severe flood and storm warnings were issued for the area.
