Does it mean much that the 150 Prado track is not as wide as the MB ML or Audi 7. What are the pros and cons of the Prados track as I put the Prado up there with the MB ML etc., which is a rap for the Prado especially the Kakadu

Can a MB ML 300 command such a price difference just on the handling yet they are never seen off road. Am I correct in thinking if I purchase a Kakadu that it has superior off road handling with just as many accessories towards driveability on blacktop as well as offroad. I just need to know why the MB is better than a Kakadu at 2/3 the price and what would be better on dirt roads and corrugations that can be found in the outback. I have also considered a Discovery 4 but its price is also deceptive on handling. I think the Disco 4 can handle the outback better than the MB but so to can the Kakadu from what I have read.A Happy Camper

My uncle has had a few 4wds. The ones I can remember were a Land cruiser 80, BMW X5 and these days a fancy Merc with lifting suspension. The X5 was a great car but blew an engine during a flooded creek crossing (creek - so not that deep actually). The Merc is very powerful but blows ridiculously expensive tyres the moment it touches rocks. When people in that family actually want to go bush, they borrow their son's trusty old Prado.glen_ep - engineered, 4" lift, 33" 255/85R16, lockers, 4.88 ratios www.pradopoint.com.au/showthread.php?17237 www.youtube.com/user/glenep www.fb.com/groups/ToyotaPrado90

You don't see MB, Audi, et al in the outback because no one makes suspension, bullbars, bashplates for them. Plus it is very difficult to get 4WD tyres for the low profile tyres.
I can't see the ML300 in the current MB website so looking at the ML250 Bluetec spec, the tyres are 255/50R19.
Unfortunately, offroad handling isn't the only thing to look at when trying to select a vehicle suited to the outback. The Disco is about the only Euro luxury SUV that would be considered modifiable for the outback. All the rest are Toorak tractors.
