I have been having problems with brakes. Felt very spongy also having to press the pedal down a couple of times to bring the pedal up so they would work. Took it into the Toyota dealer that I bought the car off they said it could be the cap off the brake fluid reservoir.....to be more exact the little valve that's there. So they ordered one from Japan. bled the brakes, replace the cap. Fixed. If anyone is having the same thing happening to theirs maybe this post could help.

Are you able to advise why the cap on the reservoir and the valve inside it impacts the brakes performance? Perhaps it prevents moisture into the system? I also have a spongy brake peddle and have had mechanics bleed them twice to no avail.
Thanks

The cap has a small valve it it that lets a tiny bit of air into the top of cap , behind the air seal , if that is blocked it is possible to get a cavitation affect inside the cylinder that causes air bubble to form causing the spongy pedal, pretty rare but it does happen
The other thing that can happen when mechanics do a bleed is pump the brake pedal too fast , this will do the same thing , especially if the fluid isn't from a fresh bottle2012 Graphite GXL T/D Auto, with all the normal crap you fit

Remove the anti squeal shims behind the pads ,with these in it increases the piston travel distance and can give a long pedal.
