FULL MUD ACHILLES 4WD TYRES http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BRAND-NEW...item53f4f97fad I have two sets of rims, the alloys running the grandtrecks for around town, another set of steel wheels same size for mud tyres. Cant see the point in spending $1600 (approx) on BF's when they will only be used on the vehicle for off road every now and then and will probably go hard before they wear out (and pushing the friendship with the wife as it is with the locker). I don't want to go a bigger size so very limited in my choice. Cheers Steve

Never heard of them but I am thinking of doing the same thing as I have a spare set of alloys. I was planning to fit the Maxxis 764, cheaper than BFG, but more expensive than the dimsim tyres you're looking at. "I have the achilles and both love and hate them. marlgooseslayer I'm not sure if you have seen one in person but if not they are definitely worth looking at before you decide to put them on your car.
They are an extremely aggressive tyre, the outside lugs stick about an inch out from the side wall and are very similar to the Silverstone mt117s (except they meet the inside lugs closer to the side wall). When new you are looking at a tread depth of 16mm between the inside lugs and at least double that on the outside. This makes for a great off road tyre. I bought mine for work which involved driving around in a peat swamp 8 hours every day for three months. I wasn't let down once in that time and I put that down to the huge outside lugs. They clear great and its pretty much like driving a paddle boat in thick mud.
The downside is they are extremely loud, destroy fuel efficiency and are very soft rubber (don't last particularly long on road). So you have to ask yourself what you are looking for? If you are driving 80% on road with the remaining 20% being light 4wding in shallow mud with a shingle base. Without a doubt go for the bighorns, they will do that sort of driving a whole lot better than the achilles. If like me you spend a lot of your time in a swamp get the achilles. I sold a few of these and i was less than impressed with them , the ones i sold were 265/75r-16 and they were labelled as having a 120 load rating, but the weight of them compared to a bighorn, was chalk and cheese, i am always wary of a tyre that is light truck rated but doesn't weigh much, they also wore out in about 20k2012 Graphite GXL T/D Auto, with all the normal crap you fit

mmm wonder if too aggressive ?? I will be running them on another set of rims so wont be driving on them all the time BUT may be too aggressive for sand if we happen to be away and do a beach run or some thing like that don't want them to bury me. I don't want to run all terrains on the spare rims. Ive always run BF's (A/T's) on the previous two Prado's and lux and while a very good tyre come across a bit of mud and they were useless, just become slicks. The muddies will give me a bit more traction off road but don't want to go to a 70 profile either as I want to stay legal....Might have to go and see one for myself.........Cheers SteveFace lift 150 Prado V6 auto.
