  • Connecting two phones

Is there a secret procedure for connecting two phones to the radio in my 2009 V6 120 GLX Prado? I can get my Iphone 4s to work perfectly or my wife's HTC but not both. It keeps defaulting to the last phone connected. I understand from the instructions that this is correct, but I also thought that a second phone could be selected to operate. Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem with this particular radio?
    Any ideas?

This is not possible on any bluetooth unit. Most units can store the details of about 10 phones but are all limited to one connection at a time.

Is there an easy way to swap between phones? I seem to have to push a dozen buttons and dials to swap between the wife's and my phone by going through 'settings' and 'select phone' or am I just complicating things?
Plus its a real PITA having to talk the wife through the process over the phone.

Oops didn't realize you were talking about the 120, I have the 150, unless they operate the same?

Sorry. Maybe I didn't explain myself well. My issue is the same as Scud's although I cant even get a second phone to "stay" recognised.

Bazza, I'm not sure about your specific unit but like I said before most store about 10 different phones as auto connects but only one will, there is. Possibility that your unit only stores one.

Of all the units I've installed and used they are app a pita to switch between phones on

So let me get this straight and sorry if I'm over simplifying it here but just want to get it right..

            1. pair wife's iPhone
            2. Pair my iPhone
            3. Take both phone out of range of car
            4. Take my iPhone into car works perfectly
            5. Take my phone out of range of car
            6. Take wife's phone in range of car won't work unless I go into menu and select 'wife's phone' from list.
Please note it doesn't make any difference if the car/accessories are switched off then on in between steps, simulating the wife getting home and going inside then me going out somewhere in the car. Seems it will always and only find the last phone connected through the menu option. Please tell me this is incorrect.

I would have expected that it would have just connected automatically to the first phone it found when the car was started so long as it was on its 'paired' list.

              Scud,

What it's doing now shouldn't happen, it should when your wife's phone is lost then rescan so to speak for another phone to connect to. But I had the same problem as you with the pioneer head unit I installed in my hilux. Technology...

                Thanks jhiace

Looks like I'll have to play around a bit more and see if I can get it working?

Like I said I jumped in on this thread not realising Bazza had a 120 and I was enquiring about the 150, my bad and I apologise to Bazza, although I think this also answers his question that it should work without pushing buttons.

However could I please get a confirmation from someone with a 150 that they can get 2 phones operating, not at the same time I understand this but say if the wife jumps in the car it syncs to her phone automatically no button pressing and then I was to jump in the car it sync to my phone again no button pressing.

                Thanks all once again

My 150's the same Scud. It'll remember the last phone you 'selected' but won't look for other previously paired phones until you tell it to. I think that's just how they work. It irritates me too. We put a man on the moon 40 years ago but in all that time, we haven't managed to make a Bluetooth unit listen for phone calls from 2 phones at once.

my aftermarket head unit is the same, it will only remember the last phone paired to it, to pair another you have to tell it to.

                        That's not good to hear.

How is it that my Mrs 3 year old $23k Lancer has the technology to have a priority system but my $60k Prado doesn't?

Tell your wife that as you are the primary driver, you need hands-free for driving and she will have to sit there and operate it manually.

The same happens with my after market Clarion unit, the last phone operated stays on line, so my wife's mobile is NOT paired at all.

My Prado is with my ex at the moment and i only get "custody" on the weekends, she constantly complains that it won't pick her phone up and I say "well mine wotks perfectly on it". I love it, doing her head in slowly Maybe Bluetooth was designed by a bloke with an ex.

Tried that one however she replied 'Yeah but I'm the primary talker!'. She has a point.
