    Hi Prado lovers,

    I would dearly love a Prado which would be my everyday company car, and in my spare time, a great off-roader and boat-tower.

    Now, my company has allowed us to take a car allowance instead of our standard Commodore/Aurion, but has put a few stipulations on it.

    No SUV is allowed to be over 2050kg (!!). Ok, so I have checked this thoroughly, from the specs sheet:

    Kerb Weight - Manual trans (Kg) - 1970-2170 (Standard, GX, GXL T/D);
    1900-2100 (GX, GXL P)

    Kerb Weight - Auto trans (Kg) - 1980-2180 (T/D Standard, GX,
    GXL);2010-2190 (VX, Grande T/D) 1910-2110 (GX, GXL P); 1940-2120 (VX, Grande P)


    So the way I see it is, if I went the GX or GXL model, it would be under the limit. I put this forward to the company, and they have replied with "we used the Kluger (blah) as a guide, and are using the max weight as the limit, the Prado being 2180+)".

    Apparently fuel could be one of the issues (they give us a fuel card), but if I went the TD model, surely that would reasonably fuel efficient, not much more than my car now!

    So now I am here, to ask you all to give me any info you know, or where I can get it, on the weight of your lower model Prados, and if anyone knows what sort of fuel consumption it has vs the Commodore or Aurion type of vehicle.

    Basically, anything you got to help me get my dream 4WD! (The only real 4WD I have found that would definitely fit is the Jeep Cherokee, and it is too small and doesn't even compare to the Prado).

    have you considered a dual cab ute, like a hilux or something, you still get the d4d motor, and if the company is buying get the sr5, you still get diesel economy and petrol performance, the hilux is good for about 2500kg towing and if you like the wagon appeal put a canopy on it, just a thought.
    had an 03 gx 120 with some gear now got a 2013 bt 50 GT auto some ARB gear.

      Thanks for the thought, unfortunately the weight restriction isn't the only one:

      No dual cabs or utes
      No convertabiles
      No SUVs over 2050kg
      No motorcycles
      NO FUN!!!

        According to Red Book the specifications for the new TD Standard wagon show a Kerb weight = 1980 Kg for the manual. Note: the petrol motor isn't an option on the Standard model but you do get a choice of auto or manual. ... and it looks like you miss out on the third row of seats.

        The auto is 10 Kg lighter at 1970 Kg.

        Yes ... the GX and the GXL are heavier .... but the Standard comes in under your wieght limit (before you load it up with accessories :lol: :lol: :lol: )

        The GX, in the diesel auto, comes in at 2180 Kg ... add 200 Kg worth of plastic flares and extra seats

          what about a (god help me its a toyota forum) a mitsubishi challenger, you still get dual range transfer, 1850kg will tow 2.27 tonne, has v6 and gets ok reviews

            First, forget the challenger!!

            Second, I dont see the problem the MANUAL GX and GXL. They both come in under the required kerb weight. So why dont you get the quote from Toyota and get them to stipulate the weight and just push it though the system. You will have fulfilled all their requirements !!!

              Thanks to all for your opinions and advice. I realised I left some of the weights out, more so for the VX and Grande models.

              Chippy thanks for posting that, I will have a look at redbook.

              And hoppy50, my point exactly, I think I will take your advice and get a quote on those models and try it that way, I shouldn't have sent them the ranges, bugger.
