Hi Steve, yeah I saw that cable and asked myself the same question. Mines a GXL too.

Another question - I hear the in-glass radio antenna has an amplifier. Is this right? And does it need to be powered via/from the headunit? Because I only hooked up the two power wires (red & yellow) for the H/U and all seems fine in the metro areas with reception quality.

Glad yours is the same then Fronty, thought oh shit what have I done LOL. I have heard of people mounting an external aerial for their radio especially if some one has had their windows tinted in a metal film, apparently is really screws up the reception. Cant say I know anything about an amplifier ?? .......Cheers Steve

its the aerial connection, it has 2 of them, also the black small wire in the same group with the foam covering with the white plug on needs to have +12v on it as it powers up the antenna amplifier which is located near the rear side windows on the left side.

There were no more holes in the rear of the radio. I had already plugged in the aerial so its definitely not aerial and Im picking up all the usual stations I was before. Picture of the back of a prado radio same as mine. I have highlighted what was plugged into mine and there is certainly no other holes available another lead to be plugged into........Cheers Steve[IMG] for ] [/IMG]

Thanks Brett. Interesting. Does anyone have a pic of this wire? Is that the one pictured in this thread?

Thanks. Still having trouble identifying the power wire for the antenna and what colour it is. I'm guessing its either pin 8 or 9 on the loom.

I think my answer is here... http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...de-antenna-amp

                Cheers.

if you notice the 120 series prado doesnt have a conventional aerial, take a look at your rear windows and notice the wires on the glass, this is your radio antenna, I would suggest that the 2 antenna cables are one for each side, you can purchase a y adapter and combine 2 into 1 if you want, but you will find that if you plug just 1 into your radio it should work ok provided the antenna amp is powered up.

Only thing is Brett wouldn't the wires be the same size diameter wise ?? The one I put in my first question is a lot smaller in diameter then the aerial connection....Cheers Steve

Wouldn't have a bloody clue LOL........ All I did was pug the two wiring looms back in and the aerial lead and that was it. There are no further holes in the back of my unit and I seem to be getting the stations no problems and everything else is working fine eg, heater controls, demister, recirc switch, a/c, etc. I don't know wether it was connected before I pulled the centre unit out towards me or wether it was just up in behind and has dropped down from been taped up or some thing. I even pulled the centre unit back out again and had another check and for the life of me could not find any extra holes that this lead come from ?? So Im just presuming it was there maybe for a rear camera, GPS or some thing for a grande as a lot of vehicle manufacturers run the same loom but just add the bits when you go up in specs eg gx,gxl,vx,grande. There is a grande unit on ebay and even that I don't think there are any extra holes on it either for this cable ....Got me stuffed........Cheers Steve

                              Hi All,
I think I made a discovery! There are 4 looms which plug into the back of the 6stacker/BT stereo. Two of them are this...

Which is simply a bridged connection between the two plugs. However one of them is labelled 'AMP' and has a purple coloured wired leading out from it.
