My story is as follows:
1. I live in PNG and operate treks across the infamous Kokoda Trail. In 2010, my 'Prado' broke down with a wheel problem (actually the wheel fell off) and was towed to a workshop in Port Moresby. They fixed the problem (eventually) and then asked if I would like them to look at a oil leak problem. As I was in Australia at the time I told them to go ahead.
2. Whilst still at the workshop, the workshop and office was broken into and among other things all the keys for the vehicles were stolen. As I purchased this vehicle at an auction in Brisbane I was only ever given one key so I made sure I knew where it was. As it had a mobiliser in it, meant I could not get another one cut in PNG.
3. Thats when my problems started. The workshop asked me to purchase a new set of keys in Australia which I did. On arrival in PNG, they put it in the vehicle and tried to start it. The local Toyota dealer went around with his briefcase to programme the vehicle but it was not to be. They advised me that I needed to return the key set to the dealer in Australia as the 'master key' was not included. Would you believe those set of keys went back and forth 3 times during 2011.
4. Finally on a flight back to PNG from Australia I was sitting next to a guy who has a fleet of Toyota vehicles and he said it cannot be that difficult and ended up towing it to his workshop. It stayed there for over 6 months until late in 2011 when the local Toyota dealer went and towed it to 'their' workshop where it remains until this day.
5. Its now the trekking season in 2013 and still my Prado sits in a workshop as now the dealer in PNG says 3 strikes and your out. Saying the keys purchased cannot be programmed and that it now needs a new set along with a new computer system. They are suggesting I try and find a pranged Prado and try and purchase the whole set and then bring that to PNG.
This is all getting too hard and so much expense has already been outlaid with no result. Another suggestion is that I try and find a second hand one in Australia and purchase the computer and keys as new ones for that year prado would be hard to find.
Someone suggested putting it on a boat to Australia but cost wise this is totally out of the question.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
